While not the same air pistol, my father has an Umarex Beretta that is just about in the same price category as the 1911, and looking at the video, very similar in operation and loading.

The quality is extremely high and compares very well with his Beretta 92.

FWIW, Umarex IS a toy company. They started manufacturing guns a few years ago, and comparing my Diana-made RWS-34 to the newer Umarex-made RWS-34 I can see a decided decline in quality.

Umarex got in good with Colt and produced that amazing SAA replica that is currently selling like hotcakes. They have the 'Legends' line of realistic CO2 pistols that include the Luger and a full auto \ semi auto Broomhandle Mauser that are also great sellers. The Colt replica CO2 1911 that I have my eye on is made by a company called KWC (?) and is sold as the Tanfoglio Witness, the Remington 1911 and the Swiss Arms 1911. Basically the same gun for all three just different lettering. This replica is highly touted as being the most realistic up to and including full slide blowback and lock on empty and take down. The downside is that it is 4.5 steel shot and therefore a plinker, not a match accurate pistol. Powerful tho' and loads of fun I hear. Check out the Youtube videos of it in action. It's next in line after I scrape up enough for the Gletcher Nagant .177 pellet CO2 revolver replica. ;o)
regards all!

Can't say anything about the 1911, but I do own the fully automatic Broomhandle Mauser. It's solid, the metal isn't the best quality of metal but it adds heft to it. It's pretty heavy and with the blowback on the slide will actually jump in my hands. Everything fit's together well. My only complaint is the barrel. It's held on by a single screw and is really a cover over the main barrel. Exterior barrel moves a bit however. Nothing I can't fix with some shimming but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Blows through CO2 like nothing though and I'm lucky to get two reloads per cylinder. No stop when the magazine is empty either which is a drawback when going full auto with the thing. ROF on it is pretty insane really.

That said, the 1911 was the next one I'm looking at from them. Far as I'm concerned they make a decent, fun plinking product to shoot at cans or in the basement with.

I had a long chat, and then an even longer phone call with the people at Pyramydair. This led to an even longer talk with Paul Speer at UmarexUSA. He's an enthusiastic shooter, both regular guns, and also these air guns. Making a long story much shorter, I now have the following on order:

I also wrote to Umarex in German ('[email protected]'), about the set of adjustable sights that they supposedly sell.

I think they exist, after reading this in a product review for the gun:

"After adding the Beavertail Grip Safety and Fully Adjustable Rear Sight Set (both from Umarex), it really changed my enjoyment in shooting the Pistol"

Pyramydair recommended the version that you bought, with the slide that functions as it would on a "real" 1911, for people who want to use it to get used to a 1911, but both Pyramydair and UmarexUSA told me that the version I ordered would be considerably more accurate.

It should be here next Wednesday or so. :)
