Unexpected response from Hornady today. Not ~good~ either...

Never had a problem with the thicker rubber washer on my powder or RT1500 so I don't understand the need for set screws and shims.

All this over a "shim"? Bet if you call and get someone else they will send you one. What about the other items on your list" Whay should then "give" you more than required, Where they broken?

I called them and they sent me a few of the shims plus a small primer feed "arm". No problems excellent service

As Dudedog mentioned some Teflon tape works even better, Heck put several wraps and the powder measure will not come off!

Lets bash Hornady and all praise to Dillon.:uhoh:

I need to edit this post. I actually E Mail them and did not tell them I NEED this or that.

Mr. xyz
Thank you for contacting Hornady. I have a couple heading your way!

Thank you

LNL Ap press, Serial # xxxxx. The Powder measure while in the LnL bushing inserted in the press comes lose. It is bushing that is lose in the press. not the measure lose in the bushing It is not the O ring as I tried another new one. Perhaps
due to the weight of the measure and more torque ? The other dies in bushings are very tight, I understand (from online websites) there is some type of shim you offer that will keep this bushing tight?? Thank you

I have never been refused anything that I’ve asked for from Hornady after explaining situation to them and have offered to pay and always have been told not needed. Several years ago I asked for those shims and they sent them. However after seeing them I just bought some off of amazon if ever needed again.

My experience with them was mixed. Sometimes I was treated very well and was sent parts no questions asked by very knowledgeable people. Other times I was told this or that was a "consumable" and next time I would be charged for it. I wasn't happy with the primer ram fix...which was to glue a dime under it...I used a thin piece of armor plating ground to fit instead when the dime quit working as well...then one time they demanded the serial number of the press which I thought was special after they had my name and address on file for several years already..it really does seem to depend on who you talk too. I have since sold mine and only have their reloading dies left, which aside from a new decapping pin now and then, never need servicing. That being said in spite of some less than spectacular phone encounters with some Hornady CS reps, I never did have to pay for a part to be sent so there is that going for them.

I am not a Dillon lover either, though I think generally their designs are better. and for all the presses except the 1050 which I recently sold, they have mostly treated me well. Little known fact, the 1050 does indeed come with a life time warranty. Just not a "no BS" one. Good luck trying to get free parts for one ( I never managed to) even if it does seem to be a defect in materials or workmanship (design maybe)...which I think has been proven in some cases (weak primer pocket swaging rods) by the recent design changes and re-release of a slightly modified 1050 under a new name....but that's another matter. All but once on matters concerning their blue colored presses I have been treated quite well and have never paid for a replacement part for them, even with the grumpy guy who seemed irritated I called about my malfunctioning 550B 10 years ago. No company is perfect but some are certainly better than others.

Just a FYI, For those that need them and do not want to go through the horror of calling or writing Hornady. they are actually washers not shims.

WASHER 1.375x1x.005 SS FH

Ease of caliber changes was one of the reasons I went with the LnL AP. Of the five female and fifteen male bushings I was able to match one pair that worked together, kind of. Put that set on powder measure. Hated it when the powder measure would pop up. It still did it, just not as frequently. This was about four years ago.

Heard about the shims and called Hornady. They advised I go to Harbor Freight and buy a set of the rubber o-rings like many of their customers were doing. Didn’t want shims or rubber o-rings. Wanted the press to work as advertised CS service wasn’t willing to work the issue past giving HF o-ring advice. Bought ten female and twenty male bushings to find sets that would work together. None were acceptable so went with o-rings.

The press had numerous manufacturing defects. Finally sorted/replaced most everything all the while dealing with a less than enthusiastic customer support. It didn’t matter who answered the phone. Some people get a functioning press and swear by all things holy that Hornady is a gift from the heavens. I think the LnL is the best press design on the market but their manufacturing execution falls way short, in my experience. Sold it, three caliber conversions, swag kit, bullet feeder, and the free bullets went with it.

I've never had a problem with their CS over the years (almost 10 now for me). Even when it was for a part that was technically an upgrade as it was being made available with newer presses.

What I found helped the most was having the part number when I called them. It seems like the CS rep is more likely to send out a part for free when they don't have to transfer you to someone for support.

Interesting, I've always had the most luck talking/dealing with folks in Tech Support...they don't want to transfer you to someone in CS so they can charge you

/\ /\ /\
I believe that was a big part of it,,,, I should have asked for Tech Support instead of CS. (I had all my part numbers ready to go, figured CS was CS)

Hornady Tech has always understood what I was saying / always done my right.
C/S is more like someone overseas who only recite's what pops up on their screen.

Hornady Tech Support is the way to go. I have had my LNL AP for years and loaded, I don't know how many 10's of thousands of rounds for the 7 calibers I load on it. More than a few parts preplaced, some due to my mistakes, others just worn. I was having trouble with indexing that no matter what I replaced, it just wouldn't work. I called and asked if I could send it back to have them take a look at it. They sent a Fedex label. When it came back with 9 parts replaced, it runs like new. I would have gladly paid for the shipping but they took care of it.
I had a bushing station (#1) that was loose. They sent a new female bushing and that fixed it. It would seem to me that the #1 position gets the most force as you're sizing and decapping cases there. None of my others have worked loose.

Lyman replaced a die for me, no questions asked. RCBS has replaced an inertial puller twice (the cap).

The only bad service I have had as been with Dillon. They upgraded the little stop in the Super Swage 600, mine was the older flat piece that allowed the case to move side to side. They want to charge me $13 plus shipping for the upgrade. I made my own. So it seems that none of them are perfect. If you don't believe that just read some of the reviews on the new 750.

Always talk to Tech Support, they are reloaders. Customer Service, I kind of doubt it.

YMMV

But much better than Lyman's CS.
I don’t know about that. When I called Lyman about a stripped screw in a new die set, they actually answered the phone, and mailed me a replacement lock ring and screw. When I emailed Hornady with very specific information regarding almost new sizing dies making deep scratches in the case necks, their only response was for me to call customer support. Which I did, waited on hold 20 minutes and had to get back to work...

When calling Hornady, ALWAYS press #3 for Tech Support.

Never ask for Customer Service in the beginning. If you need them Tech Support will transfer you.

From my experiences with them I'd say you were lucky.
It’s been a few years since I had to talk with Lyman but that was my experience as well. Hopefully they have changed with their new look and have a better attitude as I haven’t had to since.
I had a really bad dealing with a guy from RCBS a few years ago over wanting to buy the primer arm setup for a used Rockchucker I bought. Basically accusing me of trying to scam free things. Brother in law said phone back next day and I got a really nice lady who would not accept any payment and sent me the complete setup after I explained what happened the day before and apologized for the bad experience.
I guess what it comes down to is everyone can have a bad day at work but I’ve found that all of the OEM’s have treated me very well some a little better than others but all are still good.

.

I have the same problem with the rotating powder measure. Just hung up with tech support (option #3) and was very happily greeted by Preston on the phone and he immediately offered to send out the shims. Confirmed my address from my phone number and said he would get them shipped out. 5 minutes later I received an order confirmation email from Hornady.
Great experience this time for sure.
