I came across a Makarov in 380 that had a square trigger guard. I’ve seen them before with square trigger guards in 380 and 9mm Mak, but they were always the Miltex special editions with the Miltex badging on them. This one doesn’t have any Miltex badging or anything about a special edition on it. It does have the Arsenal badging on both sides of the slide and both sides of the grips. According to the serial code, it’s a 1999 year production. It has the matte black finish, which is in real good shape. Came with the military looking flap holster and two mags, both serial number to the gun and numbered 1 and 2.

I don’t really worry about whether it’s unusually rare or anything. I’ve never seen one like this so I think it’s pretty cool.

That is the standard "Arsenal" version of PM from quite some time - notice that the rear of the slide is with a different cut compared to the older models and the magazine base plate is plastic and with more support for the pinky finger.

The Miltex have an interesting history and not very many were made compared to the military models. Most folks believe that Arsenal had all these parts and simply used them up on other imported commercial Makarovs. I also have one of those in 380 as well as two of the Miltex in 9x18. So many variations in collecting the Bulgarian Makarov.

Personally, I thibk Bulgarian MAKs and some Bulgarian AK pattern guns from late 90s are the best examples of the genre as far as advanced goes.

My brother has an East German Mak and the quality of this particular gun is very comparable to something Colt or S&W might have turned out at that time.
