Last time I saw a proposal of the "flat" tax, it mentioned raising the cost of goods anywhere from 20% to 45%. That would suck.
 
Playing devil's advocate here, I would not say that it is necessarily or absolutely wrong. There are a lot of extenuating circumstances, and if those riches are gotten illigitimately or dishonestly from the poor, then the poor are most certainly justified to take it back from the rich.

But none of the current welfare schemes where the government takes from some at the point of a gun to give to others involve such circumstances.

But your federal income tax liability would be zero. So while you would pay more at the store, you would pay less to uncle sam directly.

The bottom line is you pay one way or the other.
