Fox news just showed the two guns used by the now identified killer. One, the 9mm was a Sig. I didn't get a good look at it, it was just a blip, but I believe it was a P226.

I didn't get a good look at the .22, but they did show a picture of it.

Many of the reports have said a Glock, but the picture definately was not a Glock. So either Fox News or the news reports naming the gun a Glock are/were incorrect.

This is such a sad situation. My prayers are with the entire VT community.

That settles it!!! We must ban Sigs and Glocks!!!

Seriously the news probably just flashes whatever picture they think is the scariest looking.

You sure it wasn't just a generic picture to show a handgun was used?

Very well could have been. They probably just googled 9mm semi-automatic and put up the first evil black handgun they found.

They did speak as though the picture was of the actual gun though. I just took FNC at their word... :banghead:

Photo was labeled as the type of firearms used meaning a 9mm semi-auto and a 22 semi-auto. Nothing more to it. I wonder why the guy filed the serial numbers off?

My mistake then.

I wonder why the guy filed the serial numbers off?

I wondered the same thing. They said they found the receipts of the guns, so it wasn't like they were stolen.

I heard the 9mm was everything from a glock, to a Beretta, and now a Sig. I'm actually hoping it was a Sig...you guys need the bad press for a change:neener:

Was the .22lr definately a Walther P22??? If it was Why couldn't it jam or have the slide break off like everyone elses :neener:

Fox was incorrect ... what they showed for the .22 was a South African RAP 401 (a compact 9mm ... sort of an improved copy of the Spanish Astra A75). In fact I believe the photo was of MY RAP 401 (looks like the photo I posted on the net a year or so ago).

The facts are that there are bloody few facts.

We know 2 handguns were used by an identified South Korean student to kill 32 people at VaTech. That's about it. Probably one was a 9m and the other was a .22. I wouldn't trust anything beyond that for another day.

Exactly.

And yet the casual reader glancing this thread title VA Tech Killer Used Sig may simply come away with possible misinformation stated as fact without reading the actual thread.

I didn't know that "alien residents" could purchase firearms.

Yep. Some states, like the PRMA, don't allow it. At the federal level, it's ok for resident aliens (Cho'd been here since age 8) but not non-resident aliens. The non-resident alien thing was put in after Mir-Aimal Kansi shot up the CIA.

Nope. I work with a Brit who has a carry permit and a gun. He'll never get it back to England, though, so I'll probably wind up inheriting it eventually.

yeah, they said it was a glock but showed a p226 and some other gun that didn't look like a .22

I highly doubt the media has any clue, they just show any handgun picture and the people watching don't know any different.

Correction: We need to ban illegal-gun-buying-jealous-insecure-immigrant Korean-students!

Ah, that is a pretty uninformed comment. This guy was a legal resident, with a green card. He and his parents have lived in this county for 14 years. There was no law that made it illegal for him to buy a gun. That will be our undoing.

On Dateline NBC last night they showed what looked like a Glock 19 and a blued 1911 right behind. I don't know of many 1911 .22's without a conversion kit. They must have concocted the photo.
