My local reloading shop was out of H380, so I thought what better time than the present to try some Varget. I have always wanted to try it just never had reason to leave the h380. Well as it turns out I should have picked up a current manual, as all of mine where printed in the mid 90's, before Varget. Can anyone give me a starting load for Varget behind a 55gr Nosler BT in the 22-250. Or does anyone have a favorite pet load for the 250 using varget. I'm just looking for a place to start.

Per the Nosler guide loading Varget, 35gr. is the max load 3635fps, 33gr. median 3454fps, 31gr. minimum 3273fps. I don't reload this caliber, but I hope this helps.

I use Varget exclusively under Hornady V-Max and Nosler bullets and am happy with the results. Savage 12FLV.

Have tried H-380 but am having difficulties getting it to shoot better than the Varget. So much so that I gave sumpnz the remaining H-380 powder that I had left.

thanks for the info. as it turns out 35.2gr of varget behind a 55gr nosler BT and a CCI br-2 primer does the trick in my 22-250. I think when the Varget is gone I will go back to H380 though. shoots just as well for me and meters better.

no, it meters well h380 just meters better. Maybe "better" is the wrong word. h380 just feels smoother in the measure, both meter accurately.

Hello Bushmaster ......... "Happy belated Birthday" by the way...

I guess "well" was not the right word to use, I meant accurately.........:)

Here is a couple loads .... Varget is the first and only powder I have used in my Win H.B. Varmit 22-250 ..... it is a 1/2" 200yd gun all day long gun with three different loads. I have page after boring page of dime sized 200yd groups with the combination of 36.5gr Varget, 55gr Nos B.T. @ 2.472"OAL Avg vel is 3645fps.
I have used 36.7grs Varget with two other projectiles: 52gr Sierra HPBTMatch @ 3784fps and a 53gr Horn HP flat base match 3626fps

You can see I have had No need to play around. This is one of my first posts here. I appreciate being here. HHjr
