VEPR Conversion

I have a VEPR 7.62xrr54r (02) sitting at my FFL waiting for MD to not disqualify it.

I hope to do a pistol grip conversion on it. Has anyone had experience with the Archangle stock and the ATI Scorpoin pistol grip?

Is there anything to look for in a hand guard? I am aware of the Midwest industries and Carolina Shooters supply sell them. The Midwest one looks much heavier.

Just to confirm the muzzle threads under the cap are 1x14LH. Given that there is no muzzle device detent, do I need to do anything to keep the flash hider from unscrewing itself?

Will converting to a pistol grip and adding a flash hider trigger 922(r)? I believe that it will and will need to replace the FCG with US parts.

I did a few searches here but did not find much on the VEPR so I want to confirm this before I start buying parts for the project.

You already know it is the highest quality AK rifle coming from the original factory. Their future importation is unclear. If this administration decides to slap Putin on the wrist, it may easily go after the Russian "assault" weapon imports. Simultaneously pleasing a very large crowd here.

If it were me i'd do an ace sidefolder for the stock. Then I would take one of the old robarms stocks and cut the pistol grip off and use that. They were super nice. Another option would be an mft grip.

Also the hammer is diff than regular AK but red star makes a vepr hammer ( they used to)

Concur on avoiding all things Promag. Get one of the Rifle Dynamics AR stock adaptors and go from there.

The threads are 1:14LH. I have nearly 1,000 rounds doe range, no movement of comp at all. Oh, mine is 7.62x54,too.

Thanks for the advice. I will avoid the pro mag stock and may go with a plan AK pattern buttock because I don't like the look of most AR stocks on AK rifles. The Magpul PRS looks good but is expensive. Today I ordered a VEPR FCG from dinzagarms.com.

Jcinnb, than you for confirming the threading. Which comp do you use and would you buy that one again?

Got the same gun with a 20 inch barrel. It rocks. But for pistol grips-you may need some DIY. The trigger guard on the 54r versions is a bit further back to accomodate the larger mag. So you may need to break out the dremel to get a grip to fit. FWIW though standard AK grips seem to work fine, but aftermarket ones I've tried have problems
