Very Pleased with New Lee Classic Turret

My experience with the riser and the safety primer is that the powder dispenser needs to be turned where it is sitting essentially right on top of the turret. With it set that way it should not hit the safety primer assembly.

Looks like I crossed posts.

Yea I ended up going back to the press after I posted and moved it around some and got it clearing perfect. So all good there I am going to hopefully set my 45's up on it tonight to reload I just have to remeber were I had a video that showed step by step how to set them up. I have the 4 hole kit but will be loading cast bullets so will only set three up for it since was told not use factory crimp with cast. But I sure do like the press so simple to use and if I really get into it I can produce a decent amount pretty quick.

My 2nd batch of 50 9mm cartridges was just completed in only 15 minutes. I think I'm going to like this press quite a bit.
I can usually safely produce between 180-200 handgun rounds per hour on my turret press so you are right up there with the production numbers.

I'm also sure you are going to like that press since you will find it's not only fast but produces accurate ammo too. Everything is repeatable with that press which helps in producing accurate ammo...

Brrrrremidjidweller, I grew up 25 miles south of you and went to BSU, go beavers, I am in southern Ind now, good to hear from someone back home.

I ordered an powder dispenser as well. I only reload 9 mm and 45 for now. I may just stick with the two when I ultimately get the setup for 38 special.

Do you guys see dropped powder on the turret after making cartridges? I often see some, not much. I have only used win 231 but will try unique soon and I understand it is even more fine.

What powder dispenser are you using? I've been using the Pro Auto Disk w/ Bullseye and haven't seen any dropped powder.

I learned the basics on a Lee single stage loading 45LC. I read reviews and watched videos of others using different presses and quickly learned about the relative speed of the Lee Classic Turret and most importantly the simplicity of the design and mechanism. Caliber/primer changes are a breeze and there are no primer system foul ups like I saw on progressives. I have the Lee Pro disc powder measure and use it with the micrometer adj. It works very well once I get the charge dialed in and stay consistent with my stroke mechanics.

I am finding reloading to be an addicition. I started with 45LC and now have turrets set up for 45.ACP, 38 Spl, .380ACP, .40 S&W, and have 9mm in the mail now. I'm sure more calibers are soon to follow. I really sick :O)

My current challenge is collecting brass. Many ranges are kinda stingy with it because it is a source of income for them. I just tell them I'm picking up my own and they've never challenged me.

I originally got into reloading when ammo was hard to find and to hold down costs. Unexpectedly reloading, like fly tying, has turned out to be a great hobby for me and THR forums are an amazing resourse.

Thanks for all the great advice!

I just got 9mm dies and my deprimer keeps getting pushed up in the collet when I try to use it. That never happened on my .45 die. Do I just need to tighten it more?

Probably, as long as the brass is okay. Check for off center or small flash holes and that no junk in the cases is getting in the way(you probably already checked, I'm just saying.).

Same thing happened to me in the first 50 rounds of reloading with my 9mm Lee dies. I tightened it up more and haven't had a problem since.

do you find that the auto disk measure leaks small bits of powder? I loaded 200 rounds yesterday and when I was done I noticed powder speckled over the press and bench. I am using Alliant Power Pistol powder.

No, I have not observed any leakage. I've only used Bullseye so far but everything seems to be working well. Are you using the Auto Disk or Pro Auto Disk measure?

I have noticed very small amounts (few grains here and there) of powder in the slide grooves and even on the base of the press when using Win 231 in the pro-disc powder measure. I make sure the area is clean to start, then sweep it up with a small clean paint brush, catch it with a piece of paper and just drop it back into the powder container. Never have seen enough to worry me.

I started with the regular powder hopper and changed to the pro a couple of years ago. They both leaked a little with the smaller powders. AA#5 leaked a LOT.

On the LEE "FAQs" site , I found a "fix". Carefully Sand the the two top edges of the aluminum where the powder hopper mounts. This reduces the space between the hopper seal and the disc. If you look carefully with a light behind it you can see the space between the two easily. Just don't sand too much, or the the disc won't slide smoothly and easily.
This helped mine quite a lot. I can use AA#5 now. P.S. The LEE FAQs even mentioned AA#5 as one of three that often leak.

That is completely incorrect. Unique is in no way a finer powder than W231. W231 is a ball powder which is much finer than Unique which is a flake powder. Also, Unique has a bad reputation of metering terribly and it tends to be dirty too.

Define "fine", please. If you are talking about the ability to leak past the Auto-Disk seal it might be different that if you are talking about sifting through a sieve.

This is going to be my next press. Currently using the Lee Challenger. I like the idea of the 4 hole turret and have my dies set in the turrets and just change them out without having to set them up every time.

I'll 2nd the Cabela's Tumbler. Had mine for over a year and usually let it run for approx. a 24 hour period, I like my brass shiny! Never any trouble and it's quite too.

I have not tried Unique yet but have some and read that elsewhere.

There are so many good powders out there that meter great in the Lee equipment, I personally wouldn't bother with Unique.

I'm looking at the Lee Classic Turret kit that comes with the Pro auto disk powder measure. Also looking at the double disk to double the charge grain weight for large loads. It says with the double disk, it will drop effectively 42.2 grains of IMR 4064.

I don't use IMR 4064, but I do use IMR 4350 for loading 30-06 and was wondering how it would work when I load 55 to 57 grains of this powder?

My Lee Modern reloading shows the disk settings as N/A(not applicable) for that load(It lists several IMR 4350 loads in 30-06), meaning it can't throw that amount of that powder.

Unscrew the auto disk and screw in the PPM in its spot. I think they are only around $20 or so.
