Very Quiet Gun Show

Around here I'm happy to see the crowds much reduced and closer to what was "normal" during the pre-Obama Bush years.

Still find good deals at the last show about three weeks ago, all new:

Beretta Nano $340
HK VP9 $699
SIG 320 $699
M&P9 $385
Ruger 10/22 takedown with flash hider $300
PPQ M2 $525

These prices are all 10-25% lower than the best stores around here.

Plenty of over-priced .22lr ammo that was not moving. Pistol powder still largely unavailable.

If they want gun shows to pick up in popularity again they better drop the idiotic crazy prices along with "f...k you, customers" attitude. The number of internet illiterates is quickly dwindling and that seems to be their primary audience.

Wally the VP9, you can find on slickguns for $600. There is a model with night sights and 3 mags for $625. It shows up on slickguns every week for the past few weeks. Keep an eye out, when they sell out, some company's pull the ad.

The shows in my area are quite low in attendance also, but not 'dead'. Prices are ok, most guns are coming down in price which is a good thing.

Some deals can be found if you look hard enough. Even bricks of 22lr are slowly coming down. I think the cheapest I saw 22lr ammo was still $30 for a 300rd box.

Its the best time to buy anything AR15 related though.

I can honestly say I've never been to a gun show worth my time.

If I want a gun, I can comparison shop online and get it for a steal. Using a place like Bud's Gun Shop, I can even reject the transfer for free with a full refund

If I want hysterical fringe conservatives talking down to me while they buy venison, crappy no-name reloads, and rusty bayonets, I'll go to a gun show.

Maybe all the people that normally frequent the gun show decided to hit the walmarts and other sporting good stores to start stockpiling gun stuff at the true market value

Not sure about that statement.
You have to realize that Walmart, large sporting goods corporations and a lot of the online sites get very different pricing from distributors than Mom and Pop FFL's get.
Its a catch 22.
(yes fully aware that some are maximizing profits, etc.)

As for shows......

Ive gone to two this year. A couple months ago at Reliant Park, Houston. Empty wouldnt even begin to describe the scene. We literally walked in and out in a few minutes. (I did buy Jerky though :))

The other was Market Hall, Dallas. It was so packed you couldnt hardly move. (bought another AL391)

I like the huge Dallas show and try to go every year because its not a typical sea of black plastic, as I can buy that crap anywhere.

I'll still go to some of them.

:what: Yikes.... Do you only shop at Bass Pro or Gander??

Take a drive to Champion Firearms in Bryan/CS
I paid 565.00 for my VP9
I wanna say the PPQ is also under 5 bills.

What's a gun show???

I didn't even realize they still existed. Why trudge through piles of crap to locate that one gem when it can all be done on the Interweb at a better price.

So, these things occurred to me while posting to another thread.

Worthless gunshows??? Maybe some, maybe many but I still find great stuff.
Last week here in Phoenix I scored the following at very fair prices:
.30 Carbine, 1000 rounds of Prvi.
Fiocchi .38 Super.
A "Colt" .38 Special 1911 mag that I got to hold, smell and taste before shelling out what those go for and still got a deal.
Mecgar .38 Super 1911 mag.
A new holster for my "Bufalo" .32. Got to test fit for a very non-standard gun.
.22 conversion for my Enfield Mark VI
And as I posted elsewhere one of three available 9mm CZ52 barrels.

We have a gun show about every quarter and I go to every one, but seldom do I even look at the guns. With the shortage of pistol powder, the gun shows are about the only place you can find any. The prices on reloading supply's are reasonable, and they also are a good place for finding gun parts and magazines.

Sorry for the typo the VP9 and SIG 320 prices I listed should have been $599 which is $120 off MSRP and I thought really good for such new models. I was tempted, but $550-575 was my "trigger" price.

Buying on the Internet is OK, but you have to add shipping and FFL transfer fees. I know the on-line prices of what I'm interested in before each show and its pretty rare that I can't beat it by 5-10% at a gun show, with the added plus of through inspection before buying.

Some stuff I rarely see at shows so I end up buying on-line eventually if I really want it.
