I just purchased this scope to put on a new RPR 6.5 Creedmoor. From some of the reviews, I have read this scope has some very good reviews. I got the mil-dot version to try versus the moa model. Just looking thru it looks very clear. I want to try a little long range shooting and found a 750-yard range to try it on. In the past, I have used my 22-250 and 7MM mag for hunting but most of my shots were less the 400 yards so longer shots will be a learning curve. Any advice will be appreciated.

id keep the scope mag under 15 or so power to keep down Hayes. do u know your fps for the load u are using if so and u know the wind. u should have no problem with that range. good luck and have fun.

I bought 7 boxes of factory Hornaday match ammo to get the brass until my dies get here. I want to try some H4350 with ELD 140's and Sierra 140's I should pick up the RPR Monday evening. THen mount the scope and break in the barrel. The nice thing is I have my own range at the house even if it is only 100 yards to get it sighted in and work up some loads.

My $.02 given the experience of a good friend who has a Ruger and got the Vortex Golden Eagle.

After mounting the scope he could barely get to 1,000 yds (6.5 CM) before hitting the top end of the elevation adjustment. When he checked where his 100 yd zero was relative to the mechanical bottom of the scope something was clearly off. (It was as if the scope wasn't mounted on a 20 MOA rail - which the Ruger has.) Vortex (surprisingly to both of us) didn't even seem interested in seeing if the problem was with their scope. At the very outset, via multiple Vortex people, the answer was the same: "It's not Vortex's problem."

He called Ruger and my bud said they acted so fast it was as if they were preparing a new rail to ship as he was on the phone.

I think the new rail from Ruger solved his problem (don't know for sure). I do know for sure he feels VERY good about Ruger's customer service. And feels the exact opposite towards Vortex. He didn't know where the problem was, but he was stunned at how quickly and with no interest or investigation on Vortex's part they dismissed it as not their problem.

So, after you get it mounted and sighted in I'd check the distance to the mechanical bottom of the elevation adjustment......just to be sure everything seems copacetic with how much up adjustment you have available.....especially if it might be a while between getting it sighted in and when you can actually try getting out to very long distances.

OR

Edit: I'm not down on Vortex. I'm a new owner of an HS-T and I *love* it. It has performed well for me. It has helped me get .243 bullets out to 1,000 yds.

I got a chance to mount it yesterday on my new RPR 6.5 Creedmoor and was really impressed with the first 6 shots. The first 2 at 25 yards were in the same hole. I cleaned and pulled the next shot slightly. Then move the target to 50 yards and put 3 shots in the same hole. I plan the move to 100-yard range this morning to zero the scope. This is with Hornady Match ammo 140's.
