LEO's work for us, the taxpayers. Citizens do not exist to do the bidding of the state; the state exists to serve citizens. There is no reason in the world for cops to have any rights not allowed to every citizen.

I'm a taxpayer. Who did I work for?

Would that really make you feel better if, God forbid, the worst ever happened. "Well...they took all my firearms, but by golly, they took all the police's firearms too, so I feel safer at night when gangs of armed filth roam the streets."

You have no one but yourself to blame. You vote for the representatives who make the laws you choose to live under. You choose the municipalities you live in. You vote on the laws that are made (or for the representatives who make them.) You grant the local law enforcement entity all the powers they have. You. You. You. Point that finger where it belongs.

I think that it's odd that they value the M16's at $2000 a piece.

I talked with an armoury officer, and he said they paid between $400-600 for one.

Given the price of AR-15s, this seems about right. There is no real additional expense in mass quantities for a select fire weapon over it's semi-only model. The machining expenses are minimal.

Firethorn, I thought the same thing but remember once a machine gun always a machine gun. Once you have the receiver it's only a simple matter for an armorer to add the fire control group.

My thoughts exactly. Thats why I did not even respond to that reply. Go to Canada? No Way, this is my country and I will stay and protect my God given rights.

Democracy still is the majority on my block decides the black man on the corner needs to be lynched. You can have your Democracy, I'll take my Constructional republic, thank you.

While a large number of agencies in South Florida -- Hialeah, Pembroke Pines, Hallandale Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs, Boca Raton and the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office -- allow their road patrol officers to carry high-powered rifles, others -- the Broward Sheriff's Office and the Hollywood, Miami-Dade and the City of Miami police departments -- have not yet armed all their officers with rifles.
Officers point out that criminals can easily buy high-powered weapons, both on the street and on the Internet. And recent crimes have raised concerns among police about their inability to protect themselves and the public from criminals who carry more firepower than they do.
I keep waiting for one of these press releases to make mention of a low-powered rifle ...

Even a medium-powered rifle ...
