VR60 Plus 1 any thoughts?

I am looking at getting a general purpose and fun shotty to use with them at the trap range, in the woods, and maybe even in a 3 gun match at some point. I am a Marine and have more than a few AR builds at home making this an attractive one off shotgun for me to try out. I held the standard version at a shop and it felt a bit bulky, but well balanced and fast to shoulder.

My experiences with RIA pieces have all been positive, but also 1911 related only. Meanwhile my shotgun experience is with an H&R UltraSlugger in 20ga that I have killed deer out to 260yds with. I have never owned a smoothbore of my own. My kids have a weird assortment of 20ga pieces from Charles Daly (semi), mossy 500, and a Stevens as well. I can't seem to like them as much though they have been flawless in function.

Aside from having to gear up to load 12ga as well (wish I could find a 20ga version), are there any drawbacks to this gun? All the reviews give I have read seem positive. Has anyone here tried one or heard of any issues with it?

Edit: The other one I am looking into is the Mossy SA-20. If anyone has thoughts on it too.

I have two RIA 1911’s and wouldn’t hesitate to buy a RIA shotgun if I wanted one. Their customer service is great.

If trap or any wing shooting was on the menu then I definitely would not purchase an AR style shotgun.

I believe the SA-20 is an excellent shotgun. If didn’t already own five semi-auto 20 gauges I’d have one.

I've been looking at the RIA shogun for some time now. From what I've gathered they are Turkish, so pretty much a rock solid gun at an affordable price.

I would say that of any AR style semi auto, the RIA is what I would look hardest at. Since they have a substantial state side presence and excellent CS, I would think long term parts and magazines would be assured.

I have no use for one of these monsters. I dont hunt, I dont shoot clay. I dont really have any real use for a shotgun of any type beyond HD, and I already have an old Ithaca 37 that will slam fire plus I favor the pistol to AR combo more.

However, letting off a little steam. Taking one of these to the local DNR range and just dumping a couple boxes of shot into the berm might be kinda fun. They generally frown on reactive targets, but I'm thinking making a little target ball dance on the ground from 20 yards would make them happier than me blasting holes through the backer board they need to tack up every so often.

Thanks for the replies guys. I figure I will pick one up. At worst it becomes a novelty gun I take out the the trap range just to make people look twice and keep it for HD use. Who knows it might throw slugs pretty well at 50yds for deer drives?

At the very least you can clear a shooting line in a hurry. Just load up one of the extended mags and blast the foliage away

I'm still really considering one of these. It just depends on how much I have in my pocket and what strikes me fancy first. The VR60 looks very solid.
