I have an AIM surplus VZ24. FR4894 is the number on the side, penciled on the bolt. there is a small circle with what appears to be a "v" in said circle next to the chambering (8m). It has a king carol crest (I think) with the leaves going around where the crest was before it was ground down. I love the way the thing shoots and would love it more were I able to find out its history. I know that the R means that it was shipped off to Romania, and that puts it somewhere in the '38-'40 range but I know little else about it. I would love to know the date especially.
I have searched for a serial number breakdown or something like that on THR and similar sites, but found little of use.
if it helps it was coated in TONS of cosmoline but I know that helps retain the luster so I won't complain about the five days of scrubbing, soaking, scrubbing some more. No capture screws, but there are still ears on the front site post and there is a cleaning rod (although I see no purpose in cleaning rods as no one uses them).
