Got the Vz61 receiver on the way, and just ordered a kvar parts kit. Anyone have experience with US- made barrels for these? I've heard some GB sources have poor quality machining and fit up isn't that good compared to stock Cz made. Anyone have a good experience with a US Made barrel for their VZ build?

Its 32 ACP, probably not important given the pressure rating. That said I could imagine US makers not being able to match the metric measurements the original communist era builders were using, the US makers probably base their measurements off of one example then make the rest of their barrels off of that.

One gunsmith on the East Coast says he's received US-made barrels with a shallow chamber, and one that was a sloppy fit in the trunnion.

No experience, but a good amount of interest in a CZ61 build...

What parts are you using and what's the approximate cost?

Got a K-var parts kit (arrived Weds), and a couple of US-made barrels from Royal Tiger Imports (RTI) due in Monday or so. RTI had some good sale prices last week for an *unissued* kit and new US barrel for under $260. Hard to beat that. Lower is still on its way to my LGS.

I'll try the barrels for a plunk test and interference fit with the upper before forwarding all parts to Samopal-USA for their "press and pin work" and trigger group modification. Not looking for the cosmetics package. A two-tone junkyard dawg look will be fine with me.

Since I'll have two barrels I'll be keeping an eye out for another RTI parts kit sale.

Edited to change "as-new" to "unissued"

Receiver arrived today. I was bit surprised to see this is not a pristine new item; it has mounting marks from the trigger guard, drag marks from the safety, and a few small dings from metal-on-metal contact at the rear from an upper housing slamming shut. Still, I re-read the original GunBroker posting, and at no point did the offeror state he had new receivers, only that they are made by Tortort Mfg. So I really don't have a point to bitch. To be fair, it is still a very nice looking piece of work. I believe though, I will go with the cosmetic treatment in Czech blue (or maybe Czech grey?) cerakote.

Oh, I did do a fit check for the barrels, both are a definite interference fit. I think I'll send both so the builder can pick which he thinks will work best. The barrels both passed the fit-up and plunk test, but I don't have a scope to inspect for chatter or other possible machining defects in the bore.
