waffen marked derringer?

My freind's grandpa took a few tours of europe during the 2nd world war. Through his adventure, he took home interesting souveniers; one of which was a Remington two barrel Derringer.

Now he(my freind) was digging through grandpa's old stuff (Rest his soul) and refound the derringer. Now he noticed that there was a nazi mark stamped onto it(in my most technical of terms, "waffen marked"). I was skeptical of this at first, but when he brought it over and lo and behold; it's got an eagle-swastika on it.

What's goin' on here? anyone heard of this before?

I have never heard of something like that. What is the caliber and finish? Might have been a Remington clone made in the FN factory during the NAZI occupation? Or a special pre-war gun made by Remington before the S hit the F in 38'?

For to many years now crooked folks have been making/using the steel punches, with the phony W W II German markings you describe.

Unless you have a way to substantiate that the derringer was actually brought
back from Europe after W W II, i.e. "Bring Back Paper(s)". All but the most naive collector of this type of militaria, will laugh their a** off at you.

Unfortunately nowadays with the advent of computers/scanners/laser printers etc. It's very easy to fake the "Bring Back Paper(s)" also. Because of this, knowledgeable collectors don't accept them at face value, as they would have in the past.

I don't rule out a joke by the fakers, but it is possible that the mark is not a "Waffenamt" mark but a standard German commercial proof mark, applied to a gun exported to Germany in normal commerce. Under German law, then and now, any firearm imported into Germany must be submitted for proof test and marked with the appropriate proof stamp. In the pre-WWII period, that was an eagle that closely resembles the WaA stamp.

His grandpa is definitely not a joker though; I've seen his papers for the other stuff; bound to find the paperwork for this little thing.

It appears to be remington mfg in .36 or .38 caliber; however I dont have either caliber of bullets to see.

The Remington Over/Under derringer was in .41 rimfire caliber. If it's in any other caliber it's not a Remington.
