I'm thinking about selling a pistol and getting either the WW74 or Century c39. Seems most of the reviews on the century are positive, but hearing some negative things about newer waffen werks guns. Not really partial to caliber and won't be shooting surplus ammo. What experience do you guys have with them?

The newer Waffen Weeks rifles are built by DDI and they seem to have resolved some of the QC issues that were plaguing the rifles around the last panic. I have had zero issues with mine but it is built on the earlier nodak spud receiver. If DDI brought the quality back up and are standing behind their product like I've heard they've been, they're a nice rifle for the money.

I've never handled the C39 but have heard mostly good things. You have the more stable ammo supply of 7.62x39 but no bayo lug and the proprietary rear sight that most people aren't fond of. There's also no side scope mount on the c39 if you plan on mounting optics...makes it a little more tricky.

I love my Waffen74. A few thousand rounds and only 1 ammo related issue. I highly recommend them. It is very accurate for an AK as well.

I got mine December '12, and don't have any of the issues from the "panic" guns. I hope it stays that way, but I understand that Waffen Werks takes care of their customers regardless.

Does the c39 have a proprietary rear sight mount or is it just the sight itself?
Appears to just be the sight. The caveat is that the front sight isn't adjustable so you'd have to replace it with a rear sight that is still elevation and windage adjustable like an RPK sight.

WW74 all the way. I got mine from Classic Arms for $650 and its an absolute beauty. Fit/finish far better than my Saiga or my VEPR. Of the 2 I have had, they were nicer than the Arsenals I've seen. Quite accurate too.

Ever since CAI went to a one year warranty (starting from when they shipped the gun) I wouldn't recommend anything they make*.

You just don't know if it's going to work and if you have a warranty if it doesn't. Given CAI's past record of crap builds, I wouldn't take the chance.

*Build as in doing assembly and/or modification. If all CAI is doing is the import stamp and paperwork, you're probably fine.
