Wal-Mart 3 day Hold on Colt M4 Carbine

That happened to me about 4 years ago when I was buying a handgun. But I was cleared about 4 hours later. It makes no sense.

Yeah, I inquired some more on Walmart's policy and they told me they will hold the gun for you in the back for 30 days and if they do not get a direct proceed within that 30 days they will put it back on the shelf for sale to anyone to purchase. Even if no denial after 3 days will they let you have it. Really sad.

My first .45 purchase about 7 years ago I put on the form my name as it appeared on my concealed carry and they told me it was a 3 day hold. I drove 20 minutes across town that same day to another gun shop for the same gun and put my name as it appeared on my DL with my full middle name and it was immediately approved and I walked out the door with the weapon. I used my full name on the gun purchase last weekend and it went right through. I thought that may be the key using my full middle name but I guess not after this event at Walmart. I think anything can happen with no rhyme or reason like many of you have said.

I was really sweating it because it is my first AR purchase and it was kind of a rush decision but after looking at prices and quality it seemed to be a good decision and I was really wanting it (especially when denied, I wanted it even more). Shot it today, and man it is right on the money. Thanks for all the helpful tips and share's.

The 4473 asks for Last, First, and Middle names. Omitting one or putting in an initial can sure cause problems when there's a guy at NCIC depending on that information. Usually, the seller will review the form and point out any errors.

I know a seller did that for me one time. In the "Race" section, I did not check any blocks. He saw it and pointed it out, so I wrote "American" in there. Being relatively early on my gun buying "career", I thought maybe that information would be called in for the NICS check, so I changed it and checked a box. I know better now, and always write in "American".

Well they boxed the gun up and put my name on it and phone # and took it in the back. I called today and they said they still have heard no reply back yet. They said they will hold it for 30 days then it will go back on the shelf.

This is a rural Wal-Mart not a bad area at all. I am just wondering if they hear nothing back do I still get to purchase it? Never had this happen before. Always walked out with what I wanted the day I went to purchase it.

How many other times has this happened to you?

Okay, I guess never would be inappropriate. Just that one other time and like I said I drove accross town and used my full middle name instead of just my middle initial and it went throught right away. So not sure if that was the key factor or not. I just drove 140 miles the Sat before last to Oklahoma City to get a gun and feared it may happen even joked with the Gun Shop owner about it because I did not want to have to drive back again the next weekend to pick up the gun if it did happen. He was gone 15 minutes if that and came back out and said "Denied" I said you have to be kidding me and he said no just joking:) Paid for the gun and walked out.

But seriously other than that one time about 7 years ago, this one at Wal-Mart and that one was it. The one 7 years ago turned to be in my favor because the gun I was trying to purchase that was on hold was the PT145 Taurus and was supposed to be 10+1 and the one that the gun shop was trying to sell me was the PT745 I beilieve that was only 7+1. He swore up and down it was the 10+1 and I told him I believed he was incorrect. Got the 3 day hold he asked if I wanted to at least pay for it to "hold" it for me and I kindly declined. Drove accross town to another gun shop and they had the PT145 filled the form out and got approved and walked out with it. Honest to God.....:banghead:
