wallet carried opposite of ccw

I do not yet have my Concealed Carry Permit in Georgia, but will have it within the next couple of months, because I just got a job again and can afford to finally get the permit.

I was wondering how many of ya'll here, that have a Concealed Carry Permit, carry your wallet on the opposite side of your pants as the side you keep your gun on.

I figured that it would make more sense to keep your wallet as far away from your gun as possible, that way if you were pulled over, or otherwise involved with an officer, and he asked to see your drivers license and id, you would be much less likely to startle him/her if they knew you had a gun on you.

Of course I know that concealed, should mean concealed, but if the officer knew you were armed, I wouldn't want to put them on edge by reaching for my wallet, that just happened to be in my back pocket behind my pistol.

I keep mine in the opposite pocket, but really I carry it there because i always carried it on that side. Never really gave it any more thought than that.

I don't know if I necessarily would mess with that when CC'ing. I do however always have my wallet in the opposite pocket when OC'ing.

If you are worried about presenting your ID and Permit to Law Enforcement it would seem to me that the most likely time for that to happen is in the car. When in my vehicle I keep my wallet in the center console. If I get stopped there is no fidgeting for things in my pockets. I can have my ID ready when the officer approaches my window. When out and about, yes, keep your ID and firearm as separate as possible.

For several years now since the beginning of carrying concealed I routinely carry my wallet, vehicle keys, phone, and knife on the opposite side of my fire arm. I do it primarily to balance out the weight, but it also keeps my strong hand free. In the beginning it was a little difficult, but became second nature very soon.

I keep my GFL in a small flip open wallet, along with my driver's license, separate from my normal wallet. Since it's thin, I carry it in my left front pants pocket. My gun's on my right hip.

I don't keep my wallet in my back pocket because I don't have the padding to sit on it comfortably.

From habit, I keep all my important strong-hand stuff (pocket knives, keys, etc.) in my right front pocket, so the wallet goes in the left to keep from digging around.

The gun is either on my right hip or in the front (largely emptied) pocket. So, opposite each other purely from convenience.

All the same, it's good that they're not together. Knowing the police around here, I wouldn't want to reach for my license and flash the sidearm at them.

If I get pulled over I will have my wallet out before I even have my car stopped.

I carried my wallet in my right rear pocket for almost 40 years. When we finally got ccw in my state, I moved my wallet to my left rear pocket. At first I thought it would never work, but I got used to the change in less than a week. I didn't make the move because I feared being checked by the police. I made the move so when I accessed my wallet at the store, I would be less likely to expose my strong-side firearm.

I'm right handed and I always carried my wallet in the right rear pocket until I bought my Ruger LCP and a pocket holster. I switched my wallet to the left rear pocket even when I don't have the LCP for consistency's sake.

It's a tough transition but obviously tactically important to carry my gun strong-side.

In case of a robbery, I like the idea of being having the option of "reaching for my wallet" on the right, coming back with the LCP, or if it's too risky, just to "reach for my wallet" on the left side and come back with...a wallet.

My brother is the only one who knows that when the outline in my jeans seems to indicate I'm carrying two wallets, one of them is my LCP. Amazing how people don't notice something so blatantly out of place as a person carrying two wallets at once.

Thanks guys, when I first thought about it last night I figured that I was being paranoid for worrying about the placement of my wallet.

Wishin, maybe once I get my GFL, I will pick up a little wallet to hold my Drivers License and GFL. I will unfortunately have to wait until after my first (or second) paycheck to apply for my GFL. But at least I have a job again, it will be alot easier to pay rent.

Thats how I carry,but it has nothing to do with the police and my I.D.My thinking is that if I get involved in a robbery the B/G may think i'm reaching for my wallet.

I carry my wallet on the same side as my gun.

If someone demands my wallet until they see my gun come back they're probably going to think I'm complying (in which case it'll be too late for them).

If a police officer asks for ID, before I reach for anything I'm telling him that "I'm licensed to carry and that my gun is next to my wallet, so how would you like me to proceed?"


Of course its not like anyone is going to know where your wallet is in relation to your gun if they're both concealed.

I keep my wallet in my left rear pocket and my carry gun in front right. I generally don't like to sit on my wallet in the car and put it somewhere handly while driving. Sometimes I have my gun in a jacket pocket, but again on right or strong side. I really like cross draw, but have not figured out a convenient concealed way to carry that way.

I have always carried my wallet in my left rear pocket so there wasn't any adjustment for me. I carry on my right side. first day carrying i went into a gas station to get a drink when i went for my wallet i realized that it was sitting right behind the handle of my pistol. it took some carefull wiggling to get it out without exposing my sidearm but i managed. ever since then my wallet has rode opposite of my gun.

I carry a 5" 1911 most of the year so back pocket carry is NOT an issue

Personally the only time i carried a gun small enough to pocket carry it was a BUG and i put it in my left rear pocket so it was accessible to my weak hand. Im right handed and carry my wallet in my right rear pocket so it worked great.

A non-issue with me:
1. I've always carried my wallet in my left front pocket anyway.
2. I would never carry a wallet nor a firearm in a back pocket; it's both uncomfortable and too easy to snatch.
3. If a policeman pulls my vehicle over, he already knows I have a CHL. Running my plates will tell him that.
I have a 'duty to inform' anyway. So I'll be telling him I have a firearm right off the bat, then asking him how he would like me to proceed.....BEFORE reaching for ANYTHING!

As a lefty I carry the gun IWB at about 8 oclock and wallet in my right front, or right cargo pocket depending on what kind of pants/shorts I'm wearing. That is how I always carried my wallet anyway, but it has the added advantages of helping to balance out the weight, and eliminating any possibility of un-concealing the gun when reaching for the wallet.

I carry my DL, CWP, credit cards, cash, etc, all in the same wallet, but I have the CWP in a pocket that can't be seen with a normal flipping-open of the wallet.

What is the concern? Is it that the LEO will think your drawing on him when reaching for your wallet? I dunno, I have carried my wallet in my right back pocket forever, and I carry my IWB on the right as well.
