Walther P22 opinions

I bought one for my wife, shoots great but I do not like the take down. My fault for not investigating the take down. I do not like needing tools to reassemble a weapon. I have a glock, take down in seconds and and put together just as quick. I had to field strip it at the range once, forgot the tool, a major pain to get it back together. It's mainly the spring.

I've had mine since April. 3000 rounds later, it has not failed. This takedown latch problem you speak of has not ailed mine.

Sadly, I shy from the Mark series if possible, due in no small part to their horrendous field stripping. That, is why mainly, I sold mine. I'm no more accurate with them than the SR, grip issues for me. After the reviews of the SR22, I bought one and have had nary a disappointment.
Maybe it was like Ruger said and they just ran a bad batch of takedown buttons. I haven't seen a failure report in a while. I have seen recently a couple threads about slide peening and wear around the slide stop though.

I know what you mean about the MK3 but you can just do what most people do and hose it out with some break free and then oil it. Mine's still working great probably close to 10k rounds and that's the only cleaning it gets due to it's complex takedown.

Did they publish anything as to a serial number series that may have them? Mines been fine, but bought early.

Not that I know of, I just remember somebody posting with this issue saying that they had called Ruger about it and Ruger said that some of the takedown latches weren't properly cooled after being molded so they were brittle.

The new Ruger is pretty cool. But my real Fav's are Buckmark and Taurus Tracker with that crazy target barrel. I can hit a 6" steel target at 50yds from rest consistently ping...ping....ping, I love it!
