I took my recently acquired but previously owned P88 out for a spin today, running 150 9mm 115gr fiocchi FMJs through it. It shot reliably until the 135 round when the following happenned:
I shot the last cartridge from my second last magazine, removed the empty magazine, checked the chamber to see that it was empty, released the slide and squeezed the trigger. However, when I tried to load my last fully charged magazine into the P88, it could not be fully inserted. About 1/2 a centimeter of magazine still stuck out from the grip. Naturally, no rounds could be properly inserted and the gun was temporarily rendered useless.
When I field stripped the pistol, I discovered that some part of the decocking mechanism had gone out of line and was impeding the full loading of the magazine. I pressed the mechanism back in line with my finger and the problem was solved.
HOWEVER, after going through some loading/unloading drills with my pistol, I noticed that the problem returned.
Are there any P88 owners out there who also have this problem? Any advice on how I can permanently rectify this issue?
