Hi Guys,
I received a call from the local gun shop owner today and he says that he's got a great deal waiting for me and would like to talk to me about it f2f. So, having the morning free, I drop by his shop and he says that he has a second hand walther semi-auto for sale. The previous owner has apparently bought the piece 5 years ago and has so far put 5000 rds through it. He shows me the item and here is what I see:
i)A walther P88 9mm pistol in apparent good condition. I strip the piece down and the barrel threading seems to be okay and not worn down. The recoil spring seems robust. Double action trigger pull resembles a revolver in pull weight but is consistent. Single action trigger pull is light and also consistent. The only problem seems to be rust stains in the magazine well area.
ii)The original manual, box and barrel cleaning rod is still present along with 2 15rd blued magazines. One magazine shows small rust spotting.
Alright....my questions are:
i) What kind of reputation do P88 Walther semi-autos have? Do they have a reputation for good quality control, accuracy and reliability? It is my understanding that it is a discontinued model. How does build quality compare to the Walther P99?
ii) To all P88 owners: How do your pistols fare with a diet of JHP ammo? Does the P88 feed reliably with most cheap JHPs? Does it accept HPs from CCI, Magtech or Winchester?
iii) With a diet of 9mm FMJs, does the P88 deliver SHTF feed reliability? In other words, can I fire off 150 FMJ or LRN rounds, not clean the pistol, return 48hrs later and expect it to shoot off another 100rds without a failure to feed?
Lastly, the gun shop guy is priceing this P88 at the equivalent of US$500. Is this a fair price?
