I have a Walther P99 fullsize and compact P99 both in 9mm. The springfield XD's are not for sale in Massachusetts.

My question is for those who own P99's and XD's, and your opinion on how they compare in accuracy and reliability?

I can only say that both of my P99's are extremely accurate and reliable. My P99 compact has never had any type of failure & my full size had 2 ejection failures 1st time out and never any issues after that. Both of my P99's have 3-4000 rounds through them.

Both are very high quality pistols.

Accuracy will depend on the operator.

both great guns... different features on each, P 99 is more comfortable in the hand and has the de-cock, XD has the added safety features, good ergonomics and comes in quite a bit cheaper.

I plan on owning both eventually:D

Fired both, you ain't missing anything with the XD except for maybe less felt recoil and a grip safety. Both are quality pistols and are very accurate. Want another accurate 9mm for your collection? ... try an M&P or a CZ75.

i have about 500 rounds through a already very heavily used xd in 9mm that shoots great, accuracy is better than i had expected when i got it and haven't had a single hiccup, i like the mag-release much better too on the xd

The XD is a great gun, probably one of the best striker fire guns out there.

That said I love my Walther P99AS and prefer it over the XD. I really like the double action capability on the Walter. Unlike the Glock or XD if you pull the trigger on the Walther and the round fails to fire all you have t do is pull the trigger again, whereas on the XD you would have to rack the slide again.

I should add that my P99 is a .40 not a 9mm. However I still prefer the Walther platform in whatever caliber of the XD.

I own a couple of Walther P99s, and I go the range frequently with a guy who owns the XD. Early on we swapped guns a few times, just for fun, just to get the experience of having shot yet another pistol to get some experience with its feel and handling. I still own the two Walthers but don't own a Springfield. My range buddy also is a Walther owner now. And the P99 goes to the range with him far more often these days than his XD.

I have owned a Walther P99 AS for a few years and ownded an XD9 for a few months. Sold the XD9, will always have the Walther. The P99 is more comfortable in the hand to me and there is no superfluous grip safety. I never had a malfunction with either gun although I have fired more through the P99. Both are good, for me the Walther is better.

I can't say anything about the Walther, don't have one. I do have a xd and a xdM, both in 9mm. Both are great, neither has had any problems at all.
