I was in the grocery store at the magazine rack yesterday and the PPS M2 was on the cover of one of the magazines. The caption read "PPS M2.......the newest pocket 9mm".

I was thinking those were to big for pocket carry. I have a Kahr PM9. If the PPS M2 is as small as the PM9, I may have to sell my PM9 and get a PPS M2

I have a Kahr PM9, a Ruger LC9, a S&W Shield, and a Walther M2 PPS. I pocket carry all of them except the M2 PPS. Even with the flush fitting 6rd mag, pocket carry is a no go (IMHO). I myself love the extended 7rd mag on the M2 PPS and carry mine in a Comp-Tac MTAC IWB holster. The PM9, LC9, and Shield I carry in DeSantis Nemesis pocket holsters (The PM9 being the smaller easier to pocket carry, then the LC9 next, and finally the Shield. If you only want to pocket carry, stick with your PM9. If you want a very nice single stack to carry in IWB, then look no further, the M2 PPS is a great choice (love the grip on the M2 PPS).

Walther lists the PPS M1 or classic and the M2 as the same in dimensions. I have a PM9 and a PPS M1. There's no way the PPS is as small as the PM9. I do not have a Glock 19, but some have said the PPS is the same size but thinner, if that helps any.

I also have a DeSantis Nemisis for my PM9

As one who owns a PPS M2, I can say it's definitely not a "pocket pistol". That said, it's still an outstanding little gun. I've been quite happy with mine aside from the utter lack of availability of 7 round mags.

My PPS M2 is at my FFL waiting for my handgun permits to arrive, but I have at least fondled it and it appears to be a very nice gun. As of last week I found 7 round mags in stock at a few places on the web.

I ended up selling off my G43 as I found it a tad too big for me to pocket carry, and bought a G42. I came across a new PPS M2 today, and just liked it so much I had to have it. It fits just fine in my DeSantis Pro Stealth holster meant for the G42/43 and other small 9mms including Kimber 3" 1911s, so it's plenty big enough for the PPS M2.

I'd like a recommendation for the very best concealed carry holster for my new Walther PPS M2 single stack 9mm. I'm a totally new concealed carrier and would like to avoid the reputed "drawer full of holsters" to finally find a good fit for both me and my gun!
Thanks in advance for your thoughtful guidance.

There is no very best holster. Holsters like guns are a very personal thing. What I may like you may not so much. We are all built and shaped different, dress differently, have different tolerances for something at a certain spot on our body, and different levels of comfort as far as concealment/printing.

Personally I have been happy with the Garrett Silent Thunder IWB for my PPS buy ask 5 different PPS owners and you will probably get 5 different answers.

The Walther PPS is the largest pistol that I can put into a pocket and still actually draw well. For me it's completely doable. I am generally wearing cargo pants, Carhartt and jeans though and I'm kind of a big guy. Maybe the pockets on these are a bit larger than the pants pockets of some of those commenting saying that it can't fit.

I could also do it with the Glock 42 and 43 just as well. Couldn't do it with a Glock 26 though, too thick since it's a double stack. That's basically the dividing line for me. I can get my G26 into the pocket, but can't draw it freely. I end up having to wriggle the G26 out, not good.

I made this video of my first practice session with the Walther PPS (in this case it's with the Classic) when I first started pocket carrying last year (Jan and Feb 2015).

YouTube : Walther PPS from pocket holster (*Click for video*)

I'm using a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster. It has a wing on the back edge to prevent it from staying on with the pistol off during the draw and the edge of your pants pocket hooks on the back side of the holster. Sometimes the holster stays inside the pocket, but oftentimes like in the video it flops out and hits the ground. I've always carried it with the 7 rd mag in and with two spare mags. At first it was the 8 rd and the 6 rd mag as spared, but I later added a couple more 8 rd mags to the the mag pile and then I carried two spare 8 rd mags and the 7 rd mag in. Also added Talon stick-on rubber wrap around grips.

Before last year I've always just gutted it out and stuck with full sized pistols (like the Browning High Power) or Compacts (like the CZ-75 Compact or the Glock 19/23) since the late 90's.

Because my son has therapy appointments (he's been diagnosed with High Functioning Autism and ADHD although they're waffling on the autism diagnosis) I started pocket carrying instead of carrying a larger pistol using an IWB holster. None of the places he goes to has a 30.06 sign, but in all likelihood they would have an issue with any of the parents carrying. Last years attack in San Bernardino, California at such an office shows that horrible things can still happen and so I carry everywhere I'm not legally barred from carrying.

Long term CHL holders know that even while being extremely careful to bend at the knees instead of the waist when picking your child up or getting something they've dropped and to always insure that your shirt stays put that if enough time has passed your shirt will come up at some point during the worst time possible exposing the gun to the most rabid of gun haters who are still good at their job with children. So pocket carry it is even though it's a half second slower than drawing from the waist and even slower if you start from a seated position or while walking or running. Still better than not being armed at all. Like most things it's a trade off.

I liked everything about the Walther PPS Classic except the trigger guard mounted mag release, totally bugged me. So I bought a PPS M2, what a disaster. Didn't like the PPS M2 and sold it after a factory repair.

It was ejecting the mag when firing it both as a mechanical defect and I was accidentally hitting it. I shoot thumbs forward and in addition to the weak spring on the mag release I was occasionally hitting it as well. I paid attention to my thumbs placement and it still ejected the mag in recoil. Fired one handed being extremely careful to have my thumb nowhere near the mag release and it still ejected the mag about half an inch. It wouldn't come flying out of the gun and it the ground, it would just pop out about half an inch. Had a friend fire it (he shoots thumbs high) while paying attention to avoid hitting the mag release and it still did it.

Contacted Walther and they sent me a label and they confirmed that it was in fact ejecting the mag on its own and it wasn't just me and they repaired it and sent it back. Tried it out several times and while it wouldn't eject the mag on its own I was still accidentally hitting it because of my grip and so I sold it to a friend with full disclosure and went back to the PPS Classic.

So I'm not sure if ejecting the mag on its own is a widespread thing for the new Walther PPS M2, but mine did it.

So for me the Classic is a better fit.

I think the problem with the PPS (Classic or M2; had the former, have the latter) is not getting it into a pocket, but out of one with speed. My M2 is happy IWB at 4 o'clock.

The DeSantis Super Fly pocket holster works great with my PPS M2

I must wear bigger pants or baggier jeans than most folks here. My local gun store let me slip a PPS M1 (same size as M2) into my pocket to try out for pocket carry size a few years ago. Even without a holster, it disappeared. Assured the guy 100 times I wasn't going to walk out with it. Unfortunately I didn't have the money to get it and now I can't find it.

That's the thing, I don't have an issue with drawing a Walther PPS or PPS M2, or a Shield or a G42 or 43 out of a pocket. Watch the video above. I'm not Quick Draw McGraw or anything, but it's not like trying to draw a Glock 26/27 or any other fat double stack out of a pocket.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm definitely not in fashion, no hipster jeans here. :D

All kidding aside I think that may be the issue.
