So, I logged on Wednesday with the intention to find and buy a Winchester Model 70 Sporter in 7 Rem Mag to go along side my Featherweight in 264 Win Mag.
But to my dismay, the only one I could find was on GB for $1500. Can't do it... Winchester website says they're discontinued...
So I'm asking for suggestions. I'm considering Tikka T3 Hunter, Browning X-bolt. Browning is prettier but I'm thinking the Tikka may be more accurate. I don't own a Browning rifle though.... The Weatherby Vanguards are pretty but I already own 2 of those (synthetic stocks).
Any other suggestions in the $800- $1100 price range?

110 Savage with an aftermarket Boyd’s stock should be within that range, but won’t leave much for glass.

Bud’s has the rifle for $679. Boyd’s has different options depending on style, grade of wood, etc. Depending on which Savage rifle, you may need to buy the bottom metal from Savage to make the Boyd’s stock work, but they have been easy to order from Savage in the past.

I’m a big fan of Savage rifles…I’ve had a number of them, and been pleased with all of them (all MOA with a tailored handload).

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Tikka will probably be more accurate than the browning, but no guarantee. Either should be MOA or so.

I really liked alot about my X-bolt, but I didn't care for the trigger.
Dont care for T3s but they are great rifles, and i can happily recommend them.

Of the two id choose the X-bolt. longer barrel which i prefer, i like the magazine better, similar action feel, but much nicer wood.

Of current production stuff in that range, I'd go Tikka.

If you can push just a tad higher, Kimber made the 8400 Classic select in 7mm rem mag

Of course, there's always used Rem 700s around in that chambering, and that's probably what I'd gravitate toward. I love the classic 700 BDL with a glossy stock, my 1999 .25-06 and 1978 8mm magnum will never be sold.

I have an older model Browning A-Bolt that shoots well. You might also look at the Ruger Hawkeye Hunter. They have a walnut stock option but I think it only comes in stainless. It's really sad how wood-stocked rifles have become this difficult to find.

Patriot with a vortec installed for 350-400 and a ton of ammo

One of the least accurate rifles i own but plenty good for deer. Lol. I greatly prefer wood and blued.. but Some of my least accurate rifles are old winchesters and Remington that are worth entirely more than would show at the range. I have many of those. In my experience working on guns and shooting with many people a cheap barrel nutted POS savage is just a better shooting rifle, consistenly, yet I only own 1 savage rifle. A 12 FV.

A decent savage and an aftermarket wood stock wouldn't be a bad choice at all .

That's a good idea. I Boyds stocks and I have them on several rifles I own. But I want something to keep factory. Prob won't even get used a lot.

Apparently we think a lot alike. I own two wood stocked patriots already. 270 and 30-06 and both shoot good. I also own a 12fv in 22-250

I am a Tikka fan. It's a great brand, but the Brownings are prettier, and some are great shooters. I like those old Remington's too. I had a stainless steel BDL in 7MM in a synthetic stock that was a tack-driver.

At first I thought you wanted a wood stock for a 7mm Rem Mag that you had, I was going to suggest a Boyds. :) Here is a laminated one that I installed on my Model 70 7-RM.

(Mod 70 on top, a RAR .22 WMR on the bottom.)

The Bergara is a nice looking rifle. I was oogling one at my LGS last week. ;)

Let us know what you choose. :)

Stay safe.

That's the direction I decided to go. Browning X-bolt medallion. Ordered Tuesday and already on it's way!

Finally picked it up. It's exactly what I wanted. It's super light weight for a wood stocked rifle. Fit and finish is superb. Bolt is smooth as glass and trigger had a nice clean break. Burris Fullfield IV didn't disappoint either!

Hope yours is as accurate as mine. With the looks, fit, finish, and accuracy of the Browning I’m mystified as to why they are not more popular
I shot some 175gr Winchester Power Points I had left over out of it over the weekend. Scope was set in 3 shots and I stopped right there. I'll load some 150gr Barnes TTSXs and 149gr Speer and shoot for groups.

Edit to add I actually shot 4 shots (1 more to confirm zero). 4th shot was about 1/2 inch from the one before. So it looks promising.
