This would have been better suited for April 1st. It would have made a great joke.

Clinton touts her experience with guns
Posted: 07:00 PM ET

VALPARAISO, Indiana (CNN) — Hillary Clinton appealed to Second Amendment supporters on Saturday by hinting that she has some experience of her own pulling triggers.

“I disagree with Sen. Obama’s assertion that people in our country cling to guns and have certain attitudes about trade and immigration simply out of frustration,” she began, referring to the Obama comments on small-town Americans that set off a political tumult on Friday.

She then introduced a fond memory from her youth.

“You know, my dad took me out behind the cottage that my grandfather built on a little lake called Lake Winola outside of Scranton and taught be how to shoot when I was a little girl,” she said.

“You know, some people now continue to teach their children and their grandchildren. It’s part of culture. It’s part of a way of life. People enjoy hunting and shooting because it’s an important part of who they are. Not because they are bitter.”

Minutes later, in a slightly awkward moment, Clinton faced a question from a woman in the audience whose son had paralyzed by a gunshot. The woman asked what Clinton would do about gun control as president.

Clinton touted her husband's record on crime as president, and said "there is not a contradiction between protecting Second Amendment rights" and the effort to reduce crime.

Noting that many hunters and gun collectors want to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals, Clinton referred to her positive childhood experiences with firearms.

"As I told you, my dad taught me how to shoot behind our cottage,” she said. “I have gone hunting. I am not a hunter. But I have gone hunting."

Maybe she will soon tell tales of crawling around on her belly with a double barrel hunting deer like Kerry did:)

“I have gone hunting. I am not a hunter. But I have gone hunting."

Who cares? I don't hunt and that tradition means nothing to me or my 2A rights. Tell me that your dad bought you an Assault Weapon, then you will perk my interest. She might as well have said, "I used to play soccer, let's get tough on crime!"

But for glass half full: Hey, she didn't go into gun-ban mode.

The woman is a complete and utter fraud and a brilliant liar. She is playing the ignorant American people for fools. Absolute, complete and utter fools.

She is playing the ignorant American people for fools.

When you say something like that, you imply that you too feel that Americans are largely ignorant.

I assume that was just a mistake?

I'm waiting for the gratuitous hunting picture to come out this fall. She'll be hunting deer that have been specially stocked for her with little Bill and Obama masks on them.

The People, who have a problem with memory retention, might fall for it.

It takes some skill to do something that is at once inane, ineffectual, counter-productive and insulting to the intelligence.

BHO at least makes no secret of his gun grabbing desires "to ban all semi automatic weapons" and that "only criminals and thugs have semi automatic weapons". Well I'm neither, and I have them.

Wait, what does this mean? I don't get what she means by "not a contradiction."

Hillary as your Pro-gun, Pro 2A rights candidate.

Wait a minute, I think I hear a flock of pigs flying overhead.

I do have a suspicion that Hillary (among the fascist socialist candidates:D) is probably the most pragmatic. Bill still blames liberal gun policies for costing the Dems congress in 94. While I fear their underlings (like Cuomo at HEW trying to sue gun commerce out of business), I doubt that Hillary would try to accomplish anything major legislatively against firearms besides renewing the worthless AWB. Power is more important to the Clintons then ANY policy. Obama's recent comments give me reason to pause, though. I get the feeling this guy has never had a friend in a red state or from a rural area in his life, and is about as sheltered and elitist as candidate can get. He really believes his rhetoric, and he also really believes that people like Jeremiah Wright aren't that far from the center of American Politics.:uhoh:

I knew it was only a matter of time before she sidled up with the country folk and the hunting heritage in Pennsylvania.

I bet someone is checking the town records in Lake Winola area to see if her grandfather actually had a cottage on the lake.

This lady has sold her soul to the devil.

Four words...

Clinton Assault Weapons Ban.

I actually think Hillary would be more workable than Obama on the issue-- since I get the impression that she'd work with ANYONE who got her in office.

But don't tell me that she is Pro-gun. If she was, the '94 Ban would not have been signed.

You'll never convince me that Bill was running this country in that administration.

Yeah, if she wants to run on her record in the oval office, we do very clearly have evidence of said record - which occurred BEFORE she got reduced in position from co-president.

Plainly Hillary really is fearing the Obama machine when she's desperately trying to court the gun vote.

Regardless, this is a political thread, and before it devolves into the same tired clichés and overheated rhetoric such threads are known for, I'm just going to close it.
