Weapons stolen from US Army in Germany.

Weapons missing from army bases can imply a lot of things.

Paperwork errors with military armories can include weapons taken out of service due to receivers failing armorer's inspection. They may get disassembled for salvagable parts, but the inventory lists were not updated to show destruction.

Of course the 1950s movies showing GIs trading guns for booze or girls are just ... Hollywood.

Today, with ISIS War on Everyone, we hear missing guns in Europe and think first about terrorists.

One of my responsibilities included the destruction of M16 receivers. After typing up a memorandum which included three witnesses I rendered more than a few to unserviceable condition.

Receivers of any type of weapon held in the arms room are sensitive items that are inventoried on a rather frequent basis (Monthly). These inventories are conducted by outside parties E-7 or above. If one ever comes up missing It can be tracked down to who took it out of the arms room.

Burtonwood American base, near Warrington Lancashire, UK, was being closed down. Two items were of interest to some local Lads. Very large US made Refrigerators, but made with English voltage. No use to send them State Side, would not give them away?

Placed against concrete barrier, and ran into with a stacker truck!

GI Colt .45s, packed in wooden crates, cutting torch destroyed, we could have picked up a few at 10 Quid each! We were young and foolish? But not stupid.

New Jeeps, scrapped, by dropping a wrecking ball on them.

A deal was cut by some local villains. One had the front, engine wrecked, next one the rear axle. Bought for scrap metal price.
Some fancy welding reproduced whole Jeeps. Or so I was told!

A story I was told, don't know how true it was. But new trans/receiver radios, in cases, dropped into a disused mine shaft.
Recovered after the War, for the Gold Points in them!

Large tins of preserves found a way into our pantry! Made in the USA.
Used those for years. Real good as well. When I remember the size of our English made Fridge? About the size of a small bedside table.

Always liked Yanks, now I is one!

I would suspect the black market in Germany is lucrative right now. Given time, opportunity, and rewards, i am sure someone devised a way to supply that need. I can even understand how someone might rationalize that arming German citizens (e.g. Friends, girlfriend, etc.) for self defense against terrorism is for the greater good and makes us all safer.

Can you have carry licenses in the Czech Republic?

I once owned in Canada a AK look alike, but not AK a VZ58 7.62X39. I sold it!
Doubt I could have brought it with! Loved that rifle.

Do they sell at Gun Shows?

I was stationed at Panzer Kaserne in 1967-68. Worked in supply & was company armorer for a time. Sure hope I'm not a suspect. We had M14's a few M79 grenade launchers & a few 1911's. About five or six M79's & about the same number of side arms.

Considered my self lucky to be stationed there...... My wife got to come for almost sixteen months. Not much money but we had some wonderful experiences there. The exchange rate was four marks for our dollar so that helped our budget.

It is sad to see what is happening with all the Muslim terrorists that have become a plague to that country. Even though they will probably send Angela Merkel packing the damage is done. What a pity.......

IMHO anybody but Hillary !!! Regards John

Old Guy: contact "Snejdarek", a THR member who is a Czech citizen. Snejdarek might not be the correct spelling.

He can explain how Czech laws allow semi-auto rifles and even a carry permit.

poor guys in the unit are the ones paying the price- whether they were misplaced, stolen, etc...

lock downs suck

hopefully they were already in garrison
nothing kills your spirit as much as having your first shower in a month put on hold for a whole day bc gomer misplaced some serialized piece of equipment

Please stop with that BS. France, Belgium, Germany - all afloat with illegal firearms to the extent that is absolutely unseen in the Czech Republic or Poland (guess what, we absolutely don't have the criminal gangs problems that you are facing).

Not only Breivik failed with his attempt to tap a Czech black market, but even a Polish terrorist needed to travel to Belgium in order to get illegal firearms, despite living basically on the Polish - Czech border.
