Anyone out there have experience with or know some about the Orion O/U Sport Model by Weatherby? I mostly know about Weatherby rifles which are fine rifles. Very pretty and good shooters according to my brother who has a couple of them.

They are made by SKB in Japan so they are good quality.

Other than that is all about personal preference and fit.

If you are talking about the current Orion sporting, I own one, and like it. SKB hasn't made Weatherby shotguns for over a decade however. The current Orion's are made in Turkey. I would say they are equal to the higher end CZ over/unders, and miles above the cheaper Turkish o/u's. I also have an older SKB Weatherby which is a more robust design.

I don’t own a Weatherby O/U, we do have three SA-08’s and one SA-459 in the family, all Turkish made. So while I can’t speak to the Orion I do feel Weatherby branded firearms not made by Weatherby are excellent quality and Weatherby customer service is outstanding.

Oof! Way to water down the name of the Orion shotgun. They were really something back when I was a wee lad.

I shoot skeet with a guy that has one, other than the second shot not going off when it real cold…30’s it’s been great. We think it’s the factory grease getting stiff as it has never done it when above 40-50 degrees, also it doesn’t do it all the time or consistently…like it has a mind of its own. We’ve been wanting to take it apart and get the factory grease out and see what happens, but as mentioned it only does it when cold. Other than that, it’s been a great gun and he loves it.

Decent review by Phil Bourjaily:

And American Rifleman:

The good news is mechanical trigger, manual safety, and no porting. Brescia design, so more of a Beretta fit than a Browning. The bad news is, made by ATA in Turkey. The Turks can make some decent guns, but ATA would not be my first choice. On the other hand, it has been in production now for 6 years so Weatherby should have worked out any kinks and Weatherby has excellent customer service.
