For our thumper toy. He has been using the .300 BO on his fire road jaunts on a motorcycle for a few years and got a deer and a few coyotes, but really didn't feel comfortable with it based on that performance on the 300-500 pound bears quite common in his area. So when I found Davidson Defense selling quite the nice aero based upper for $179 shipped today he sprung for it. I found a toolcraft BCG for $92 from Billy Bobs ,so we are up and running. Think I will get a couple hundred Starline brass and dies, I have some 300 HP and 400 SP bullets from 45-70 and a nice 350 grain mold too. Plenty of suitable powders. I think a 300 grain bullet at 1800-1900 FPS out of the 16" barrel makes it a semi auto 45-70 :) I noticed the upper has a modified ejection port for the big rounds. If we want to go .450 BM or .50 we can just switch barrels easily enough. Do these rounds single stack OK in Magpul or DH mags ? Anyone have any hunting experience with .458 Socom ?

the socom does trapdoor 45/70 fps or better from a 16 inch barrel it will kill anything u can hit. i think a 30 holds 10 and a 10 round mag holes 3 or 4. should feed fine. bear creek has some real good deals and the come with the cbg. when i get the spare cash i will get one tho the 80 bucks per 100 for brass kinda sucks. have fun.

A modified (shaved follower) 10rnd Magpul holds 4, 20s hold 7, 30s hold 10.
Feeding issues are usually extension related, rather than mag since it's basically a single stack center feed. The blunt profile bullets really dislike sharp edges so check your extension/upper for any.
For light skinned game the pointy 300gr nosler muzzy balistic tip provide slick feeding and nearly perfect performance/velocity correlation.

@Gordon Just FYI, Davidson Defense / Delta Team Tactical / Omega Manufacturing have had their fair share of bad press in the AR world. Just search them it seems that they are all related somehow, or at least use the same parts? I don't have any personal experience with any of them as I've steered clear based on reviews, so take what I say based on that. My brother did have some pretty poor parts that he received from Delta Team Tactical a few years ago that he tried to contact them on and ended up just getting rid of them and going with other parts. Just wanted to pass it along that you may just want to pay extra attention to this build.

I know that @GunnyUSMC uses Delta Team Tactical and seems to have good luck so who knows...it's the internet everything you read is true right?

I'm not one to just bash vendors, but just thought you may want to ensure everything looks right, seeings how it's a completed upper.

Well Aero receiver and outsourced barrel and other parts kinda seems a good bet.I know there is bolt issues on the bigger caseheads , that's why I bought one that has had years of good reviews. This is not a fighting gun, we spend lots of attention on those. :)
