In my quest to stick more rounds on the gun for practical shotgunning I mounted a little kydex double shell belt loop onto the right side of my reciever. I just drilled a hole in it and attached it with the fwd trigger group screw that holds the sidesaddle on. Looked cool as heck, two shells pointing fwd and sticking out 30 deg. for an easy grab. I'm lefty and load off the gun with right hand while mounted to the shoulder.

First problem, If I left them pointing straight fore/aft they auto-ejected themselves under recoil. Oops. I canted it about 45 deg. up and they no longer fell out, but a few ejected hulls hit the thing and bounced back in the chamber. Oops. Overall I got several successful loads out of it, so the concept for me is validated, I just need to do something lower profile stuck to the reciever by adhesive velcro probably. We'll see.

So right now, I have a 6+1 18" bbl. gun, 6 on the sidesaddle and the rest come from armband, belt, teeth whatever. I can't do buttcuffs and bandolier slings and such are clumsy and slow. Any other bright ideas? Especially, has anyone mounted two shell successfully on the rear of the forend so they are right there to grab? Without falling off?

And no, I will not just buy a Benelli or X2 until all those autochucker guys can beat me. Right now they have problems doing so.

Probably gets an "F" for coolness, but have you tried simply holding 3 rounds in between your fingers of your forehand? That's what I do for skeetshootin ("Crazy Quail", specfically), and during the crossover hunting seasons when it's deer/turkey season (3 #2 in the gun, 3 slugs in the fingers).

It's pretty quick, probably quicker than yet another shell carrier. With practice, that forehand can be ready load before you are, using the between-the-fingers trick.

Ain't seen no 3-gun yet, so I can't help no more than that.

How about a SpeedFeed Stock which holds 4 extra shells set inside the stock?

properly set up and used, a bandolier isn't clumsy and slow.

if you poad the bandolier such that every other loop has a round in it, you'll have a much easier time getting the ammunition out of it.

when you pull rounds out of the bandolier, push the rounds up and out of the bandolier with the trigger finger of the hand that is going the round manipulation, then pull the shell out the rest of the way.

once you practice it a few tiles, it won't be very clumsy or slow.

He said "bandolier SLINGS" rather than just bandoliers.

Bandoliers are fine, but I too find the bandolier slings cumbersome, clumsy and slow.

My setup is similar, 18" barrel with extension and SS. But, I keep the mag one round down and the SS has been trimmed by one round so there's room for the base of the peep sight. The thing is heavy, but workable.

IMO, the Law of Diminishing Returns kicks in around where we have our 870s. More rounds can be added, but not easily. And the weight may push the total up into figures usable only by gorillas and NFL defensive linemen.

The Army dropped the M-1 and M-14 because lots of soldiers had trouble using same from the weight. My 870 weighs about the same.

Also, 12 rounds of bucknslugs ought to handle anything capable of being handled by one shotgun and operator.

I note the lastest CTD catalog lists a 55 shell capacity belt for less than $20, and the Nam style 12 round pouches in either camo or black run 3 for $15. One of these or similar may be a better way to carry ammo than on/in the weapon.

HTH....
