Was out the other day looking for a new pocketknife for under $20. Checked out the knives at Home Depot but they had a vey limited selection and were all were too big and heavy for what I wanted. Went next to Walmart and found a much better selection of name brands at decent prices. Found one that I liked as soon as I saw it: a Gerber US1 Pocket Folding Knife for under $14.

Really liked the overall size and weight, blade length, and design. Blade is 420HC American steel. What was frosting on the cake to me was that it was designed and engineered in Oregon and made in the USA. Sort of took me back to the good old days of Gerber Knives!

If it fills your needs. That is a good choice.

I spent a little more, ok a lot more, and have a spyderco native and endura as my EDC.

Just wondering why you dont shop online?

Yo Mama

Needed a few other things and just decided to see what they had. Also had a couple of old gift cards I wanted to use up (wasn't even sure there was anything even left on them they were that old).

My most used knife is a Victorinox SAK. Not fancy, but very reliable.

Gerber is making more knives in Oregon now. I think Fiskars learned a lesson. I used to carry a Gerber years ago a fair amount for light duty... essentially I was an office jockey. I used other knives when I worked in the field (outdoors).

Just as an aside. Keep it sharp and clean.

I had a co worker who was always asking me to sharpen his Gerber. It never needed sharpening it only needed to be cleaned. Seems he cut a lot of cardboard and the tape and glue would gum up the edge.

A little hand sanitizer or solvent and it was good as new.

I wasn't aware of that model. I might check that out. Lord knows, it's not like I need another pocket knife... but they seem to be a weakness of mine.

I have been carrying a SOG Micron 2 for a little while now, and it has spoiled me rotten. Way too small for serious work, but almost effortless to carry. I gave one to my best friend, he loves his too. This US1 kind of strikes me as being similar, but a little bigger - the next size up.

I have way to many pocketknives given that I carry either a Kershaw Blur or a Syderco Endura 95% of the time. Today is the black-bladed Endure with the partially serrated blade.
