Whether it was to support a knife maker you know, to support knife rights in general or in your state, or it’s just a design that really trips your trigger, what’s the most amount of money you’ve ever spent on a knife?

This is purely out of curiosity. Pictures are surely welcome as are the reasoning behind the purchase.

Randall Model 3. $500.00. Just ordered a Chris Reeve Large Inkosi. $450. I like top quality things, is why. I use the things I own too and both of those knives fill a great using niche which is why those particular choices.

$850 for a Robert Parrish 8 inch Survivor.

I wasn't paying attention and thought I was bidding on a different knife; A Parrish 6 inch Sunfish.

Guess I'll always have two now.:)

Interestingly, the most I ever paid prior to that was when I bought my first Parrish Survivor new from him in '85.

I have more valuable knives but got them *at a rate* so they don't apply.

Todd.

Probably this Mayo... $1400

However, this Benchmade 720, even though it didn't cost much, is the knife that got me started on higher end knives so it's cost me a ton... :)

to support knife rights

Thousands

I volunteer for Knife Rights and I Mod Activism and here. I spend hundreds of hours a year that includes traveling to 3 national events and I donate money, knives, and time to help defend our right to own and carry knives.

The most I've paid for a single piece is ....

$450 has been my max with the Inkosi. I have lots of knives that are pretty close to that, but they were bigger choppers. I have found that I don't go entry level much anymore. The Mora Robust I just bought is probably going to sit in a drawer until I need a beater. I like it. It's well made. It just doesn't spark joy:p I kinda wasted $13 on it...once I spent $230 on the ZT0180 I just bought. I don't like to think about fiscally sound policies when it comes to knives and what I want:p

I've never been much of a collector, but I do prefer to have a good equipment. Although I do have a couple of firearms that I've kept over the years for sentimental reasons, generally speaking, if I haven't shot it or used it in a year, I must not need it and I get rid of it in favor of something that I will use. I guess I'm just one of those guys that gets no joy from just owning something.

Long ago, I had a friend, who was a knife maker and from what I'm told, a good one. He told me that he thought Benchmades were the best bang for the buck production knives on the market, in terms of materials and workmanship.

In any case, I've always had need for three knives. A "suit" knife, a "jeans" knife and a knife for those times when my jeans knife was too big, but I could pack something bigger than a suit knife. For some years now, my suit knife has been a benchmade Lerch in 154cm and my jeans knife is a benchmade 710 in D2. My inbetween knife was a 705, but I replaced that with a 707 in 154cm. If you count all three as one knife to have on me at all times, I guess I spent $600. two bills each, give or take.

$750 for this Vehement Tunnel Bat. It was a one-of-twelve custom version of the Tunnel Rat design with some changes reminiscent of the Marbles Jet Pilot Survival Knife - hex pommel, larger guard.

I was going to pay $800 for one of Tinker Pearce's swords more than a decade ago, but there were a bunch of delays due to his health at the time, and he ended up finishing it for me and didn't charge me anything but my deposit, so it didn't end up being $800.

Paid $450 for a Burt Foster custom, also more than a decade ago. Don't think you can get one for that anymore, that's for sure.

My price range when I was accumulating them was $300-$700. I sold most off and kept a few that hold meaning and they are pretty simple low $ pieces from some makers that I can use. The Cheatham I still have among these.

$170 on a Hinderer-designed ZT0566, and this was a splurge for me. I used a gift card my wife gifted me. I prefer a balance between quality and value, and lean towards made in the US. I also enjoy higher quality steels, and truly enjoy sharpening sll of my knives. That balance goes for knives, firearms, vehicles, tools, etc. So on knives, I'm more of a Kershaw guy. 20181013_194408.jpg

$250 for a Khukuri House Mukti.

Which for as huge as it is(over 5 lbs:what:) I think it's worth it just for the weight lol

$350 for a Spartan blades ares. Just cause it looked right, and is.
My normal folders are about $200, average for fixed blades is less. You can get a nice ka-bar or buck for under $100. My most commonly carried fixed blade is a glock knife, it's been through hell and hasn't given up anything, think I paid $25...

I collect FS daggers - I came across "my first" 1st pattern and traded probably $1800 worth of guns and knives (at least 4x boxed Cold Steel large knives.)
SOUZYCUl.jpg

The 1st came in a ragged 2nd pattern sheath. I discovered the 1st pattern knife used a unique sheath, you couldn't just set it in a 2nd pattern sheath.
A fellow collector from Norway had an original sheath and I traded his for a nice 2nd pattern dagger and sheath I owned, worth about $500 mas or menus.

I try not to think about what I paid for it $2300, or so -
If I had sold the items for their cash value, I could have waited and likely have found myself a nicer condition 1st.
But, that's just not how it works for me, lol.

The 1st is on the far right with some other English daggers and a smatchet designed by Fairbairn in the center.

I think the most I ever spent for a knife was a little under $300 for a OOP Boker Smatchet which IIRC was around $100+ over its original MSRP. Its not like the knife has any real historical value, and I have no idea if it really had any collector's value. It was just a knife I really wanted to own and that was the cheapest I had found a NIB example.

I think Boker has since re-released the knife, but at an ever higher price so I don't mind what I paid for mine.

WOW!

I don't think I have ever paid more than ~$50 for a knife and no more than ~$100 for a multi-tool. Most of my knives are less than $20. But I also have rarely paid full price either willing and able to wait for a really good deal. I have also started making my own but that is still a learning in process.
