I'm primarily interested in knowing what are the top 5 guns that you have observed with engraving, but if you want to list your top 5 list of guns you would personally like to have engraved, that is cool to.

Feel free to do more than 5, just figured anything after that point could be about anything...

I think engraving distracts from the beauty of the 1911. No engraving what so ever.

I would say a 1911 would be the most common, followed by Single Action Armies. After them I have no idea.

Some of the engraved Blaser rifles are beautiful, but pricey.

For a handgun, to me a moderate amount of engraving looks really good on S&W revolvers...

I also like a moderate amount of engraving on a decent quality double rifle, or a decent quality double shotgun...

1911s, SAAs, old lever guns, pump shotguns, and S&W revolvers are the ones I see most often.

Pretty much anything with a lot of smooth exposed metal will have an engraved example somewhere.

The only gun I've ever had engraved is an SBR. The SBS will have it done as well whenever I get around to filing the Form 1. If you mean decorative engraving my Ithaca 37 is the only one I have and I don't really care for it.

Smith & Wesson revolvers
Colt single-action revolvers
1911s (the large unobstructed flat surfaces lend themselves very well to this)
Colt double-action revolvers
Browning Hi-Power

Close enough. :D Strangely, I don't recall ever seeing any Ruger revolver engraved.

My guns are all working tools. Engraving is not for tools that are used, it might get scratched.

Number one gun that begs to be engraved and looks naked without it.....over & under shotguns.

I would rather not engrave my guns, but a great many people do like to personalize their weapons. In some parts of the world it is a status symbol. Ugh and Gronk no doubt put decorative carvings on their clubs in the caveman days. :D

As for the notion that "working" guns are mere tools and should not be engraved or otherwise embellished, here are a pair of engraved 1911s carried by a Western lawman of some note: http://media.photobucket.com/image/manuel t. gonzaullas/LesterGillis33/Lone_Wolfs_1911s.jpg Note there are no guards on the triggers.

Oh no, don't tell Clint Smith, that is what he uses when he is teaching

Old Colts, Smiths, safari rifles and high end shotguns, followed by pocket pistols designed for female customers.

Funny you say that. My wife wanted one of "Raspberry" LCP's so we got her one and after a year or so she saw a pic of the "Engraved" LCP. She wanted the slide, I explained we probably couldn't just buy the slide, well my wife is fairly persistent so we wound up buy a entire engraved LCP and swapping the slides, then selling a normal LCP, just with a used slide. You know how it is, what mama wants, mama gets. :uhoh: Now she may well has the only "engraved, Raspberry" LCP in the country!

For the record, I personally don't consider the mass produced "engraving" on a LCP "the real thing."

Parker Shotguns, Colt Single Actions, Colt Double Actions, and of course the O/U shotguns. One drilling I looked at recently had some very tastful engraving on it.

I think Colt DA revolvers look great with a little engraving. I have an engraved Diamondback 22 that is the cats meow to me.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I figured S&W's would be up there along with Colt handguns. And now that its been mentioned by several, I guess I cant think of too many o/u's or sxs's that arent engraved in some fashion whether it be machined engraving from factory, or hand engraved at some point.

Great pics all. Fivetwoseven, I can honestly say that is the first Glock I have seen done up quite like that! Even the bottom of the mag is engraved...

He will do things like slam it against fence posts to demonstrate alternative slide racking techniques, too.

Whether you likeit or not, you have to admit that an incredible amount of skill went into engraving that Glock. Would engraving in plastic actually be a form of scrimshaw? :D
