How bout a 12" knife across the base of the tail. Fire up that FryBaby right there on the kitchen counter ...

She could then tell the FWC folks she was just protecting herself with that knife! :neener:

.22 long will do as long as you hit it between and just behind the eyes. Don't ask me how I know.

My wife once asked me how many men I have killed in the completion of my duties as a soldier. My response was, "They were all bad!"

She bought it, don't see why that wouldn't work when talking about alligators too. Darn things have made such a comeback form the endangered species list that they have become a nuisance. Then you add the fact that some tourists are idiots and insist on feeding them marshmallows and bread, it's no wonder they don't have a natural fear of humans and human dwellings.

If you visit Florida, go to Sea World and feed the dolphins and pet the sting rays. Don't play with the alligators!

.303,.308,.30-30,.30-06,.375,.338,.300,.307,.35,.358,.400,.44-40,.45-70,.470

Pretty much any rifle caliber that starts with .3 or more.

For pistols,

I'd say anything that begins with at least a .3 and ends in magnum. Or maybe a .40 cal because I'm beginning to think that the .40 cal is the uber caliber.

This made the network news last night...

They had the 911 tape, she called it "huge" the operator aske what huge meant. I saw it getting dragged out and informed my SO that she need'nt call animal control if she were to find one in the kitchen. I estimated shoes for her and a briefcase for me, even if I used the shotgun.:D

Any weapon that has an ability to go through a 4x4 would be ok I'd think.
As far as hand guns go the most popular in the world (9mm) would be fine.

Shotgun would be good, I think I'd prefer 00 or 000 buck, and the best location would be high ground to get a shot into the top of the head:D If that wont work (no high ground) shoot and pump ;) till it is full of lead and not moving:D

For hunting (er . . . fishing?), a .22.

For defense? No idea. Any documented cases on how determined a gator is? Will they be aggressive after being wounded or do they retreat?

Then you add the fact that some tourists are idiots and insist on feeding them marshmallows and bread,
hahaha :)

I'm well aware of the gaters down in FL when I'm there...and I keep my distance because them suckers can move!

if i found a gator in my kitchen i'd probably crap myself first:what: then i'd get the mod 27 and shoot him in the head a couple of times.............. i wonder how much alligator boots would cost............

the answer is: shovel*

Kid: Mama, another gator got in the house.
Mom: Another gator?! Give me that shovel! Come here!
Kid: Get him, Mama! Get that gator!

My money's on something like a Javelin ATGM or 50BMG or something. You know that gator scales are like 1/2-3/4" thick plates of dense bone (called osteoderms), right?

Harley, when you say 4x4, did you mean the pine board, or the humvee?

That would be a piece of pine/fir, if you used the humvee as a reference that would eliminate many handguns/shotguns and some rifles;) Might be a good reference though:)

IIRC, Steve Irwin didn't kill anything. He just made a habit out of annoying really dangerous critters, which you can't expect to do forever and keep getting away with it, which he didn't. Grabbing rattlesnakes and poking
things with big teeth with a stick is guaranteed to catch up with you eventually. Cal. for gator? I think 7.62X39 would work, given that you're starting out with 20 or 30 rds.
