What calibers can i shoot in the 1895 nagant revolver

Hey All,

What other calibers can i shoot in a 1895 Nagant Gas Seal revolver other than the gas seal 7.62 russian stuff? I heard a rumor you can shoot some sort of .32 caliber cartridge, but i was not positive.

The only caliber you should shoot in a gun having a 7.62 caliber is 7.62. Caliber is the projectile size not the actual cartridge. Sorry pet peave.

Commonly interchangeable today. Semantics don't get anyone anywhere.

I'm not sure which other rounds can be used in the Nagant, but I believe .32 S&W, possibly .32 ACP due to it's semi-rim. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along shortly.

I can't remember where, but I saw a .32acp replacement cylinder for the Nagant revolvers. If I can find the site I will post the info later.

There are .32 cylinders available. I have fired .32 H&R magnums, .32 S&W longs, not many however, with no ill effect.
The cylinder gets dirtier tho.

Most don't know the difference or that they're NOT the same thing. Semantics sometimes educate.

Someplace on-line I recently saw a chart indicating which cartridges could be safely used in another chambering. If I can recall where I saw it, I'll post it up.

Can fire .32S&W longs and .32 H&R magnums. Cases will bulge, maybe split if the revolvers chambers are large.

Can get Russian 7.62 ammo too.

Also can find and fit a .32 ACP cylinder.

The best bet is just shoot .32S&W longs or the proper Russian Nagant ammunition.

I have three of these revolvers and they all shoot great with the S&W cartridges.

I also have a .32ACP cylinder, however it only will work in one of the revolvers.

Disclaimer on the .32 Mags. Expect bloody hands from the lead shavings hitting your hands. I had nicks and cuts all over mine from shooting the things. I don't recommend it.

yep, though you can usually get the real ammo for it for 20-23 bucks for fifty, which these days isn't bad.
