I’m also surprised by the lack of enthusiasm in regards to the 40-S&W. Myself I don’t have a pistol chambered for that cartridge. Since the 40-S&W appears to be the dominate law-enforcement cartridge I thought it would be the most popular also for CCW.
I have found myself carrying my Glock 23 .40 cal. about 95% of the time. It took me a few hundred rounds to get comfortable and accurate with it and now it's the first one I reach for in the morning. I only reach for something else when concealment and lack of printing is a must. I have yet to find a holster that makes this possible with the G 23 and is also comfortable for me to carry.

I used to carry my Glock 22 .40 all the time. Now, it's my bedside gun. I now carry a S&W 442 .38 revolver in a pocket holster. Much easier to conceal and carry everyday, everywhere.

Interesting poll. I too am surprised to see that the .40 is not higher. I basically carry 9mm, .40, and .45 interchangeably based on mood and attire.

The one thing that comes to mind about the 40 is that its recoil (snappy) is less comfortable than the 9 (lighter) or the 45 (slow push).

Primary for me is 45 ACP since I carry a 1911. I also have guns in 380 ACP, 38 Special, 357 Sig, 38 Super, 9mm, 40 S&W, and 10mm on my permit. Nevada just changed it's permit rules, so now I can actually carry anything I own without having to have the individual guns listed.

Primary a sig p220 45 acp
Secondary an s&w model 30-1 32 s&w long
Will be getting a rig for a ruger 44 special in near future.

Permit is for semi auto which in Texas qualifies carrier for revolvers also.

4 handguns on my CCW

9mm in G19
.38 Special in S&W 442
.357 Magnum in Ruger GP100 4" blue
.45 ACP in S&W 457

I have a Ruger LCR for home defense with laser.

The Airweights are fantastic, aren't they? My wife and I both have them (I have 442, she has 642) and they are just a sweet carry gun. Light, compact, easy to conceal in a number of ways. Darned nice shooters too, we have great fun at the range during practice.

I carry a Ruger .357 mag.
95% of the time a SP101,
5% of the time an LCR or a GP100, 3".
In the LCR I like the 110gr. HJLHP's

My two primary concealed carry weapons are a Walther P99C in 9mm and a Walther PPK/S in .380 ACP. I carry the 9mm more than I carry the .380: two-thirds to one-third.

Most of the time it's my S & W Model 64 - 38 spec with 38+P loads

Other times my S&W Model 686- Plus - - 357 Mag

I have the following guns for carry. Which at any given time is based on attire:

Ruger LCP .380
Ruger LC9 9mm
HK P2000sk .357 sig/.40

Haaa....

I carry .45 ACP mostly but when dressed a certain way (or absolutely, positively can't print...) I carry a little .380.

Okay...better than a sharp stick...:)

I dropped by here today just to say hi to DHart (miss him from another forum...his photos are incredible...) got zapped there by an person unhappy with his opinions.

You all are fortunate to have him, We (mostly) all miss him over there...

Amazing how stuff happens sometimes...:)

Off duty carry

At work, I carry a .40 S&W. No choice in that.

Off duty, I usually carry a .32ACP BERETTA TOMCAT, .380 SIG 230 or BERETTA 84.
If I am wearing clothes that can hide it, I will go with a 9m.m. like my BERETTA 92D Compact, SPRINGFIELD ARMORY XD 9 Sub Compact or WALTHER P99.

I have pretty much stopped using revolvers in the last 2 years. Before that, I often wore a .38 Special. Either a CHARTER ARMS Undercover or S&W model 38.

45 acp primary and back up while on duty. Off duty it's 70/30 between 45 acp and 9x18; dependent on attire.

I carry 45acp in a Ria1911 c most times.I also carry 357 magnum 38 spl 40 s&w 454 cassul 223 handi rifle and 20 gauge stay in the truck at all times.I actually like to carry the 454 but I tore up my holster last deer season.

38 spl +p S&W 642-2, I keep it loaded with PDX-1, but prefer my GDSB. I have owned several pistols and feel comfortable with any choices I have currently available.

Well, .40 S&W is handy because of the easy availability of brass around here (so much law enforcement brass available). Still, I think most people carry their favorites and many LEO's carry other chamberings off duty as well.
