I don't suffer from G.A.S. but do have symptoms from T.A.S. (tool accumulation syndrome) not to be confused with TSA (Transportation Security Administration or sometimes known as thousands standing around) from which we all suffer.

Kidding aside, G.A.S like any other shopaholism is derived from a mix of materialism + discontentment + being unthankful. Once your things own you, instead of the other way around, people can be enslaved and actually serve the very things they bought.

IMO, it's a HOBBY. Part of a hobby is collecting things which interest you.

You don't see people going "OOOH, STANLEY!! You collected TOO MANY coins"

You don't see people saying "Sarah! You collected 1700 Butterflies, YOU MUST
BE A RAVING INSECT LUNATIC!"

BUT, the second it's GUNS, there's a "syndrome", and society immediately wants to treat you like you're some sort of WEIRDO...

...personally, I'd worry a lot more about a gun user who only ever had 1 gun.
