I've been to Australia, NZ, most of Canada, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, RSA, Zambia and that being said. South Africa is the only country I may move to. Guns are limited to 1 per caliber, and pistols are highly regulated but hunting is great, and you are so close to other countries with better hunting.
I just got back from NZ a couple weeks ago so heres the info you are looking for. Nice country, likes hunting, and fishing, and outdoors. Many people are every bit of redneck (country folk -politically correct term) as many in the US.
Pluses and minus of guns in NZ:
Pluses:
You can own suppressors, bought over the counter with your firearms license.
Minuses:
Guns are FREAKIN expensive.
BASIC Wood/Blue Ruger 10-22 - $500 US
Tikka T3 - $1100 US
I went into a bunch of gun stores, saw a few semi autos, Remington -06's, and a few 10/22's but that's about it. So if you like semis they are out pretty much.
AMMO IS SUPER EXPENSIVE!
Pistols are pretty much out.
I WOULDN'T MOVE OUT OF THE US. I FEEL YOU ARE CRAZY FOR ASKING!!
