What did you see at the gun shop today?

I didn't see it in a LGS but my neighbor, late 70's, bought a Tokarev TBP 12 from one last week. Now he and his wife are just now getting interested in guns. They got their CWP on their own. I took them shooting their s&W's for a lesson. So now he wants to shoot the 12 and no place to do it. I have a friend with a spot out in BFE so we load up and go. Long story short, the 3 of us put dozens of loads from 7/8 oz "AA" to 00 Buck 2 3/4" magnums through it. Excellent feel, nary a malfunction and recoil soft. You do need to take it apart to insert the 3" "collar" so we skipped that. Controls somewhat AR like. He paid $350 OTD which I thought was OK for retail. I'd go for one if'n I needed it. Joe

Was tempted today by a used .45 ACP Sig P220R (w/rail and night sites). The gun had all new springs. They wanted $800 and I thought that a bit steep.
It also has the factory $200 trigger job and night sights. Also does not seem to have been used a whole lot. There is a nick on the rail where someone may have had a light mounted. GS says they will let me have it for $700--should I go for it?

If you have the cash burning a hole in your pocket why not???

My brother-in-law who lives on the other side of the state asked me to look for a 12 gauge over/under for his grandson, so I did. While looking at the big guns, I fondled a Franchi Instinct .410. I love .410s. Totally irrational I know. I already have two .410 pumps, so it's not like i'm deprived, but this Franchi felt like Harry Potter's magic wand. Has anyone used one of these?

Oh man, so tempting. This is a .38 Special Model 15-2 S&W. I could have this for $425. Am I crazy for passing it up? It looks to be in great condition other than that the chrome looks to need some polishing. Little to no end play. Good lock-up. Firing pin on the hammer.

Been thinking about this one. If I were to stuff $500 in my wallet and go by the GS and if it is still there, it probably would come home with me. What is it about guns, you can never have enough of them.

Like new Bond Roughneck in 9mm with box. They have on consignment for $225. MSRP is $277. Maybe I should grab it. 9mm is a good caliber to have and a second frame would facilitate comparsion between my .45 Colt barrel and my .357 Magnum barrel.
I can take cash Wed am and if still there maybe it was meant to be.

Friday I saw a Stevens 555 20 gauge O/U for $566.00. Asked the new guy at the LGS if I could take a look at it. After a few minutes, I noticed the other employee who has been there for years standing a few feet down the counter waiting with an iPad (they do their 4473's electronically). He knows me too well, because it went home with me.

I don't hunt and don't shoot trap/skeet/sporting clays (yet). Glad I don't because then I could probably talk myself into one of those $2-3K Berettas.

This one is still there. Shop says people will show interest until they find out it is not a .357 Magnum. Obviously they don't know their S&W classic revolvers.

It's mine. Took it home today for only $200! The 9mm barrel is a bonus as I really wanted an extra frame. Now there is one other barrel I should have, a 2.5" .45 ACP!

One of my LGS had a 170 prefix(first year) in pristine condition Ruger SP101 3" 357 for $600 OTD but I recently had bought the same gun in 2.25". I also was bidding on a excellent condition Ruger Speed Six 2 3/4" another LGS had listed on GB. I wouldn't have had to pay transfer or shipping. I got outbid an hour before bidding ended and planned on waiting until last minute to up my bid considerably. I fell asleep.:cuss:

Guess it wasn't meant to be. A shame though.

A Mauser Model HSc 380 pcp 9mm kurz. GS has it listed for $500 but wanted to make a deal with me. The deal breaker was when I found out it is not a 9mm but a .380 ACP called 9mm Kurz. Curioius gun though. Has the magazine release on the base. The slide locks back and unlocks by shoving the magazine back in. The hammer looks like it was bobbed but I think they are just made this way. It is like this one:

The 9mm Kurze (.380) HScs have a well-deserved horrible reputation. Mine was a jam-o-matic, apparently most of the .380s are. The wartime .32s are supposed to be decent feeders.

You will sometimes see Spanish guns marked 9mm Corto, which is also .380.

I cant count the number of times I've seen 9mm Largo, Corto, and Kurze handguns marked as 9mm Para. in gun and pawnshops.

On the other hand, this one is still at the other GS and I was told before that I could have it for $425 (listing at $500). Its a S&W 15-2 .38 Special . Is this a better choice over the Model 67 I posted above?

Today being whatever day it happens to be or even within the last several days you happened to stop in to a gun shop. So today, I visited my local gun shop and they had one of these puppies with the 8.38-inch barrel. It's a 460 S&W Magnum. They list for $1429. This used one they were asking $995. Nice deal. I should have bought it but I don't know if my wrists are strong enough. They had a box of hollow point ammo 20 rounds for $30. I held one round and wondered if it was for a Howitzer! This is one big monster of a revolver. I will probably kick myself for not buying it but it was not on my shopping list and with that caliber I don't think I want the lock. Really, I am looking for something a tad smaller, maybe a 44 or a 41, possibly another 357 but with a long barrel since I already have two snubs.

I like mine, but it is a handful, that’s for sure. My two sons like it a lot too. I traded one of my 3 too many trap guns for mine. Keep in mind you can shoot 454, 45 Colt, and 45 Schofield in it. Not bad at all with those pee-wee loads!

I saw a sign that said “Nobody Under 18 Allowed”. Then another sign, “no purchases allowed during the last hour before closing”. Another said “background checks for ammo can take up to two to four hours”. Pistols displays were hidden from view. Rifles behind the counter were spartan at best. Ammo and reloading supplies were in locked cabinets Including dies. I guess I didn’t need to look anyhow.

Saw a 7.65 Browning like the one below with the wood grips. I was interested and asked what is 7.65 (yeah, I should have known). The guy behind the counter said some odd size, wasn't sure it it is made anymore. Later I see it is .32 ACP. Kind of ticked. I probably would have bought it had I known. I looked at some other guns but this guy was rather aloof the whole time. Shouldn't he, working at a gun shop, know what 7.65 is? This is the same gun shop that has two would-be gunsmiths who demonstrated their incompetence to me once and will never get the opportunity again. Too bad because it is otherwise a good shop, often has some great deals on interesting guns and gives a full month free range pass when you buy any gun.

Both fine guns. What do you like/dislike about each one?
