What did you see at the gun shop today?

Yesterday, while looking at a long row of 1911 pistols, one was priced under $700. Ouch. It was a Rock Island basic 45ACP at $499, and looks like a GI version with wood grips. There are others in the $525 - 675 price range in local gun stores, somewhere. :(

In other news, I took delivery of a new, Rock Standard 1911 #51431 last week (formerly called Tactical II).
If you were looking at the RIA 1911 A1 (Government, base model) for basically $500 that's roughly $100 - $150 more than they're going for online.

My LGS has a lot of 1911s, some well over $1000. They have one, Tisas I think, for $350. I got my Charles Daly there for $500 last fall. Like it!

theotherwaldo: that "sporterization" is a shame. Some work might have been done, due to damage caused by a previous owner, but it's still a loss of military character along with some of the rifle's original masculinity.

I never looked twice at a tranny rifle.

I'm glad some of you can find lowish priced 1911 pistols in a local store. I prefer a few modern parts like skeletonized trigger, Commander style hammer, or other enhancements, including extended beaver tail.

And those parts are relatively inexpensive now. Currently doing that with my RIA 1911 A1 FS.

Oh man, so tempting. This is a .38 Special Model 15-2 S&W. I could have this for $425. Am I crazy for passing it up? It looks to be in great condition other than that the chrome looks to need some polishing. Little to no end play. Good lock-up. Firing pin on the hammer.

I was in Lawrence today and saw new signs at what had been Shooter's Gun Club. Now it's Integrity Elite Firearms. Still have the indoor range and a LOT more guns and ammo to choose from. The friendly young fellow at the counter showed me a nice, lightly used, S&W Airweight that is tempting... o_O

Was tempted today by a used .45 ACP Sig P220R (w/rail and night sites). The gun had all new springs. They wanted $800 and I thought that a bit steep.

Nice! Did you bring it home?

My LGS had a slew of Sub2000s for $525 and the $100 mail-in rebate is still going on, so I picked up one with a G19 magwell for my Go Bag.
525?? I was about to say they are full of it but nope, I just checked and dealer cost from Davidsons Distributing is 489! Yikes. I remember when they couldn't give them away fast enough at 399 MSRP...

Well, to be fair, the Gen2 has a number of (badly needed) improvements that make it more expensive to manufacture, so I think the value proposition isn't outrageous.

The $100 Im getting back is going towards MCarbo upgraded bits, though, so...... :)

Ohhh, how long has the gen 2 been out?

Couple years now. Sleeker forend with rails, screwed-on ( rather than glued) adjustable METAL front sight post, threaded barrel w/protector, metal buffer tube nut , larger ejection port, and a few other minor changes.

I wish they would sell them from the factory with a folding rear sight and metal release lever, even for a few $$ more- but MCarbo has that covered.
