What did you see at the gun shop today?

The 20 gauge is gone. Should have grabbed it Friday when I was there, but now they have this beauty, a S&W CS45, which is a 45 ACP DA with a decocker/safety. Fits nice in the pocket too! Tagged at $550. Looks like it was not used a ton. Image is off internet, not actual gun they have for sale. Probably not much bigger than the AMT Backup 45 I was wanting a few months back, and a much better gun.

So.....did u buy it? :)

Arsenal Makarov 9x18mm. Used and tagged at $500, which seems way too high. Cool gun and comes with some free, dated ammo, about 1 box each of JHP and ball. DA/SA and a decocker/safety. A toy, not for SD IMO. I like it but not for $500. Not the gun I saw, but an internet image:

I clean Interarms Virginian Dragoon .44 Magnum with box. Asking $800. I paid $450 for mine but it is beat up a bit. The one at the GS has a longer barrel by probably 2 inches, so maybe 8-inch long.

A used Charter Arms .32 revolver in 7-shot, asking $350.

I probably don't average more than once or twice per year going to a gun shop. I'd go a lot more often if I knew of one locally where I thought I'd see something that really interested me, but the ones I have occasional access to are full of new mainstream guns, and I'm just not into those, generally speaking.

That said, I visited a large LGS this week. They advertise having over 7,000 guns in stock and I believe it. I stopped in primarily to see if they had a Dan Wesson DWX that I could fondle, but they did not. I looked around for about 45 minutes or so without seeing anything that gave me the urge to pull out the plastic, which was a little surprising for me. Here's my favorite hobby, I'm in a store with thousands of guns, and nothing interests me??? I know they have some stock in the back, but out on display they have literally hundreds of ARs from entry level to high end. I'd estimate a couple thousand handguns if not more (pretty much the full line of most common brands), a hundred or more shotguns, and a few hundred non-AR rifles. Out of these, there are probably a hundred or two used guns, so the vast majority are new.

In addition to the guns, they have an extensive optics section with brands such as Trijicon and Steiner in the $4K range, as well as Leupold, Vortex, Burris, etc. Again, many hundreds of scopes and optics. And lots and lots of other accessories, knives, gun safes, holsters and such, as well as ammo. There is no telling how much their sales are each day.

The main takeaways for me were:
- There's not much in terms of new, mainstream guns that interests me.

- I was a little surprised at how many people were buying guns, and some of the clientele. The store had perhaps 7 or 8 salespeople working at 1 PM on a Tuesday, and two or three of them were constantly writing up sales. Most people would shop and compare, ask questions, decide between multiple guns (guided very much by what the salesperson told them, right or wrong). Some would just come in and buy a gun like buying a box of ammo. One guy asked to see a Sig Legend, held it for about 30 seconds (I think the doofus kept it pointed at the salesperson's stomach the entire time while he examined it), and just said, "Can you bag it up for me?" and plunked down his CCW license and credit card. There were a couple of individual (they were by themselves) young black women buying handguns and obviously knew nothing about guns, and likewise a young guy who knew nothing but was getting help picking out a carry gun. As mentioned earlier, they went almost entirely on the advice of the salesperson. Then there was a young white woman who was there with two guys, apparently helping her pick out a gun. My main point about the clientele is that it was NOT only gun nuts and people like many on this forum buying from this store on this day. There were several of those types in the store as well, but definitely some newbies, and those people were doing more of the buying.

- I knew my interest is mostly in guns from the 1930-ish through 1990-ish range (or guns that are still built like those), but this trip further highlighted that fact.

- And if I had to pay this type of gun store prices for my guns and ammo, I might be like Barney Fife and have only one gun and one bullet. ;)

Quite frankly, my "gun store" is Gunbroker (except for FFL transfers). I'm not gonna pretend otherwise.

Many of my favorite gun types/brands are never seen in our gun stores, primarily because owners enjoy the excellent quality control and don't sell these guns. One exception: four years ago some guy bought a nib CZ PCR (9x19 mm) , used one box of ammo, and immed. brought the gun back to the store, to resell at a Huge loss. It was my lucky day.

Novices: notice that if a gun has obviously been "Bubba'd" on the outside, it almost always sits in the gun store for quite a long time.
Right now there is a Huge Glut/ over supply of guns available in our stores, and nib (new-in-box) on Gunbroker. Not a good market for most gun types to sell.

Today: Clean used Heritage rough Rider .22 with wood grips and 12-inch barrel. Consignment, listed for $199! That seems like an extremely good deal, but I already have a Ruger Wrangler .22 but only a 4.5" barrel. Still, not so fond of the safety on those Heritage guns. And I already have a 12" barrel wheel gun in my Taurus .357 Magnum, so while it would be fun to buy every gun we want, somehow we have to limit ourselves.

Oh, and they had a Swichgun, the folding .22 Magnum revolver. That is a pretty awesome gun and I like it better than the NAA mini, except I am not sure if the Switchgun might fire if dropped on the hammer as it did not seem to have a notch between the chambers to rest the hammer. Oh, they wanted $493 New.

True. GB is always open and has a relatively huge selection of stuff that I might be interested in. :)

Another interesting thread to start, similar to the OP's thread, is What did you see of interest to you on the online auction sites today?

I sat at a gun show yesterday blessing and cursing myself for not bringing my extra cash. Across the hall about 50 yards in plain site were two mannlicher style stocks on pretty short rifles. I was thinking too long for a Swedish M94 and those are pretty rare so I concluded they were Argentine! My b-i-l took the table and I went over and saw two simply gorgeous 1909 Argentinian Mausers. One was listed for $650 and the other was $750. Both were in very nice shape.
NEITHER came home with me :(

I get a trophy now - lol

Went to a different GS I rarely get to because there are two other GS closer to me. I was amazed at how many used handguns they had. I can't begin to remember them all, but here are six I wrote down because I would consider buying one or more of them. Images off web, not from actual gun on display at GS. Of them all, the S&W Model 10 .38 snubby is the one I might grab. I would love the FN but too much money.

FN Model 1922 .32 ACP $750

Please tell me you jumped on that Model 15 as soon as you saw the price tag on it!!!

That or else you grabbed the Model 10 snubby for 3 bills!!!

And extra bonus points for you if you worked a deal on getting both of them for $500!!!

Unfortunately, it was on the way home from a Chiropractor appointment and I forgot to grab a large wad of cash.

Does this gun shop have a layaway program as you could tie up both of those guns before someone else saw them!

At those prices they won't last long!

Besides the two .38s I bought today this is what else is at that gun shop (in part):

Ruger GP100 .357 $799
Taurus International .357 6 or 7 inch $400
Colt SAA .45 125th anniversary fancy model $2000

Anyone in SE MI wants to go there, it is The Firing Line in Garden City a western burb of Detroit.

Man, if I won the lottery I would be making a mass purchase and the ATF probably would be knocking on my door looking for straw purchases or something. :D

Just ammo. I stopped by the gun store on my way home from the tire shop (guess where I spent my money). After buying a couple of tires I wasn't in the mood to shop.
