What did you see at the gun shop today?

Excellent score! The 1922 Browning is a classic, and that was a good price.👍
I offered $350 and they took it. Most consignments have a bottom price they will take that the store knows about, so I always make an offer. The above photos were my flip phone. I will post some better photos in the latest gun purchase thread tonight.

LGS had a nice Yugo SKS with the grenade launcher & bayonet--but at the very common market price of $700.
Also, a Chrome & Black Nylon 66 for $600

The have a nice FN Baby Browning for $500 sitting next to a 1908 Vest Pocket Colt for $600--those are both tempting me. Not that I need another 25acp

All listed for $400 but the $300 Mauser. Would love to buy them all, but passed on any. The Mauser is one I might go back for.

FN 1910 in .32 ACP, Mauser 1910 (or 1914) and Colt both in .25 ACP

Two revolvers in .32 S&W (CORRECTION, they are .38 S&W), one a top break with grip safety (Safety Hammerless), the other a Terrier:

I went back to above GS and looked at the two revolvers, Safety Hammerless and Terrier. I want both! Offered $350 on the Safety Hammerless and the seller is okay with that, but then I just called back and asked the GS to see if I could get the Terrier too for $350, so $700 for both. Hey, if I have to get a new ammo size in my stash, may as well have a couple of guns to run it in! :)

At the gun shop? Very little that was not there yesterday. The employees there walk around like they are ?? Lost??
Now, Down the road, at the gun and pawn. Now that's a different place. They have all the guns the lgs have + more. And, more. Fun to walk around and just see what they have. Yeah, they have ar's stacked on top of ar's and black pistols stacked on top of black pistols. And more.

aaaaa

I like the way you think!

Keep up the good work!

Been researching that safety hammerless and learned that earlier ones ran black powder and may not hold up under modern smokeless powder (cartridges presumably), so I got a bit shy of buying it. Stopped into the GS again yesterday and checked for the serial number. According to the chart in this post, the gun (/38 Safety) is the 5th generation (1907-1940: 220000 through 261495) so should be okay for modern ammo. The one at the GS is SN 225###, so presumably is around 1911, assuming production numbers were level over the 33-year period. The guy who confirmed the seller would take $350 was not there and the guy I spoke with yesterday knew nothing about it. Also when I mentioned earlier ones were black powder, said if it was a black powder gun the .38 S&W would not fit in the chamber. I don't think he gets it that some of the cartridges we use today date back to pre-smokeless powder era.

The older cartridges are not well understood in the Internet Era.
A friend was given two revolvers to "get them out of the house" after the owner died. Nothing complicated about the High Standard .22, but the H&R .32 was found loaded... with .32 Short Colt. "Well, the salesman said it was .32 Short and that is what it says on the box."

At my local LGS I saw a very nice condition IBM M1 carbine for $1500. Really makes me sad because that seems like a pretty low/average price for one right now. I want one really bad but have told myself I won’t spend over 1k on one. Still too much, but that’s where I draw the line.

I have passed on several over the years for much less, thinking at the time that they were too expensive. Starting to look like it’s one that I’ll never get. Don’t know what I’ll do with all that .30 carbine brass I’ve been picking up at the range all these years!

Get yourself a Bond Arms Derringer with the .30 Carbine barrel. It is a blast to shoot. Huge fireball. :D

Is this worth $300? They won't come down in price. Is a .38 Special. There is some cylinder end play will likely need a shim.

Can't read the barrel, but the tag says .38 S&W.....

If its really a .38 Special, Id say probably yes. If a .38 S&W, meh- would depend on if you're willing to source and pay for the ammo.
Gotta watch out, though. If its a British Service gun, they were originally chambered for .38-140/200 (38 S&W), but many were reamed for Specials and they are both inaccurate and potentially unsafe for +P ammo thanks to the cylinders being pre-heat-treatment.

Should have edited out that other tag belongs to an S&W Terrier and I would love to buy it but they want $400 and it is an ammo size I don't have or want to add. The Terrier is an I-frame.

The .38 Special says Made in America or U.S.A. so can't imagine it is a British service gun, but worth double checking if I pursue it. I will ask a different sales person about a lower price just in case.

Well, they were all Made in USA. British service guns will also say US PROPERTY (so they would be returned postwar), have British proofs, and the .38-140/200 marking stamped on the other side.
Probably the easiest way to tell is if the barrel stamp says ".38 S&W Spl. Ctg." or just ".38 S&W Ctg." The "Spl." Makes all the difference.

A 99%+ pre 70 1969 Colt Govt in original factory nickel for $2k. Putting it on layaway in about 40 minutes if its still there.
Its going to keep my blued 1969 govt company if all goes well

Edit: All went well. Will be coming home with me as soon as the paperwork is finished.
Pics pls!

I got snookered several years ago (early on in my revolver-buying binge) by an unscrupulous seller on GB who sold me one of those bored-out .38 S&W revolvers as a .38 Spl. “Victory Model.”

I had never heard of these being altered before. The first time I fired it, all six cases stuck in the chambers after splitting open during firing. 😩

I ended up buying a used .38 Spl. K frame revolver cylinder, had it fitted, and sold it off.

If you think about buying it, check inside the chambers closely. If it looks bored out, like the yahoo did with what looks like a carrot scraper here in my old gun, set it down and back away!
