What did you shoot today?

Golf balls. Yep, golf balls. Youngest son's birthday. Said lets get lunch and hit the driving range. Sooo, thats what we did. Tomorrow or Tuesday, I going to the shooting range a try some .38 spl and .45 acp loads. It was kinda fun whacking those balls out there 150-175 yards tho. Son could hit 'em 250-275 yards pretty often. Show off!

I've never owned a scope or red dot etc.
Tried to hit the 200-yard, 8"x10" gong (this is their closest plate). Missed almost every time, but my friend said that nearly every miss was within a few inches of the small plate.
But twice I managed to hit the much larger 300-yard gong: you can hear it. It's difficult for a friend who spots to know where most misses go - you can only see (and only some) Missed shots when they go underneath the 300 plate.
Grass is on the ground to the left, right and above the plate.

Simply owning and shooting such a gun is enough for me: SAR-4800 FAL from Brazil. The other FAL is a Century L1A1 Sporter (on Imbel) which needed the help of the specialist/expert FAL gun smith last fall: Mark Graham of ARS.

It's not loading pics. Ugh. Okay, I think my technical difficulties (1d10t) has been solved.

Took the twins out to the 300 yard line -

Two Sako Finn M-39 rifles. Serial numbers about 2000 apart: one stamped 1941, the other 1943.

Here's one -

And the other -

Notice the fan on the bench? At 37 degrees, my specs were fogging up. I need some breeze to clear them. Brrr.

Shooting at the 300 yard line - that's the one way back there...
DSCF0052.JPG

I zoomed in a bit to help. The rear row, the blue target near the middle? The one to the left is my target. Two regulation 300 yard targets side by side.
At 300 yards, the front sight post is wider than the black center of the target.

Yep, iron sights.

I did okay with my home cast handloads. I need more work. I'm on the target , but low left out of the black. I'll go back this week.

Function tested the HuntSafe Savage Mk II that stopped extracting empties midway through the field day with the kids. No bueno! The combination of thunderbolt bulk ammo (state contract) and unfortunate extractor design, coupled with lots of crud and likely marginal maintenance made it necessary to pry out the empties more often than not. Spring tension on extractors was suspect, but there may have been buildup in extractor groove as well.

On the plus side, very few duds these days compared to the covid production!

Yesterday was my Kimber and G20, the range's M&P 2.0 in 10mm and a GP100. Still working through right hand / left eye dominance issues. Discussed with an instructor who reminded me that target accuracy is not required for defensive accuracy. I agree but still want the most accurate group.
Shooting the Kimber left eye and hand gave me a very acceptable group. Using the RDS on the 20, I finally moved it closer to where I want it. Still have not pulled it out the going away box though.
The range's M&P and GP100 both shot great left handed.
Still trying to re-train mind and body to shoot left handed after almost 60 years of shooting right handed.

As depicted in the link in 🇸🇮 Slovenia (it borders s.e. 🇦🇹Austria), except that my 'G3 / HK-91' is the US clone, the PTR-91 "Classic GI". These hobbyists are neither LEOs nor VIPs., just typical citizens.

My VZ-58 was manufactured and assembled in the Czech Republic, as was theirs. 4,200 documented rds. since mine was nib. I’m still waiting for the rifle to have its first issue—-oh… and the VZ barrels are produced by Lothar in 🇩🇪 Germany.

Shot 150 158gr Xtreme RNFP over 4.3 grains HP-38 38spl out of a 1979 Dan Wesson 15-2 4" 357 at my local indoor range. Late in my session a couple gentlemen about my age(70) began using the lane next to me. They kept shooting the target clamp shattering the bullets which knocked their targets down with a scattergun effect. Targets were only 16-18 feet out. It happened four times and they didn't have a clue they were hitting the target clamp bracket. They just looked at each other bewildered each time.. One accused the other of not hanging the target properly. I enlightened them before I left and they thanked me. That's why I try to shoot when nobody's there at the public range.
