What did you shoot today?

Last night, five weeks post knee replacement, my wife encouraged me to shoot trap league.
Rough. 92 degrees, hadn't picked the in up in five weeks, and I'd had therapy that affternoon.
All I tried to do was keep up with my squad, mount the gun, forget the beads and just see the bird. Knee and back pain steadily increased. After the 16 yard half I was ready to pack it in. Did shoot the 25 yard handicap and sat and guzzled a gatorade. (normally a Shiner Bock after shooting).
Answering the question: my old 870TB I bought nephew in 1975. Gun Club #8 at 16, Gun Club 7 1/2 from 25. 23/25 @16, 24/25@25. High gun for he team and best 25 yard score this summer for me.
Moral: Blind hog finds am acorn. Or, don't obsess about details and let the gun that fits do the job.
Still suffering but will be back next Thurs.

In my Czechpoint/ 'CSA' VZ-58 (7,62x39) , just 40 rds.

The S.A. M1A Standard, so that a friend (Fedex jet mechanic) could get another basic feel for the ergonomics. He only wanted to use 30 rds.
He doesn't have a rifle chambered any 'larger' than 7,62x39.

Several days ago rather than today (I didn't see this thread until now), I shot an East German Makarov and a Czech VZ-52. Yesterday, I cleaned them.

The VZ-52 had grips that were almost too deep for my hands (which are not small, by any measure), which made it a bit difficult to control, but I managed to keep most of the shots on the gong. When I stripped the gun, I was impressed by the design...simple, but elegant. I wonder why more manufacturers don't utilize the roller-delayed mechanism.

This gun was Czech military surplus, and someone, along the line, had shot a lot of corrosive ammo through it, without adequately cleaning it. I spent more time working on cleaning the barrel of that gun than I have ever spent on any gun barrel, and still did not get it absolutely clean. So I cut my losses, oiled it up, and reassembled it. But I have to say, I like the oxide finish on the gun, it's an easy-care surface. I understand that the gun was originally designed to fire the 9mm Parabellum cartridge. It would have been an international success if the Soviets had allowed them to sell it internationally in that caliber.

Shot my S&W 4506-1 for the 1st time in years. Didn't shoot it well.. Forgot how heavy it was. Hopefully I'll have time to try again tomorrow..

It's funny, people have all sorts of disparaging remarks about 'plastic' pistols, and striker fire anything.

Then they pick up an all-steel pistol from the 80sor earlier, and the first thing mentioned is 'holy smoke, this is heavy! How can I carry this all day? '

Back in the day we carried all-steel pistols, because that's what there was - all-steel pistols. Many times the extra weight of the steel makes the pistol easier to shoot.

But not always

Hooda Thunkit:

I've carried all-metal 9mm handguns (steel upper CZ-75s, German Sigs etc) in an inside-waistband Remora holster (original type)...which Has No Clip!
With these you can do jumping jacks or a slow somersault, going upside down over a carpeted surface. Imagine that ! "All we have to fear is fear istself" (FDR).

And this Clip-less holster never allowed a gun to move upwards, or at a different angle, all by itself.

Therefore, as for people who carry a Heavier, all-steel handgun in a holster having One or especially Two holster clips, with a tight belt----so….what's the problem people have with just a 9mm having a steel slide and alum. frame?

Yesterday I finally shot my CZ Tac Sport that I put an SRO optic on. After shooting Single Stack and Limited for years I've signed up to shoot next weekend in my first match with an optic. limited Optics. It's an adjustment and I'll get another session in before the match.

Nothing today but had 4 guns out yesterday. Tried some new 444 Marlin handloads in the CV Scout, did some plinking with the Ruger Single 6 with the 22 Magnum cylinder in it. Also zeroed a couple .22's; the CZ-455 has a new to me 4-12x Tract scope on it that I recently got from another THR member. My collimator dialed it in so good that it only needed 4 clicks of right windage to achieve the zero I wanted. Then I got the 10/22 zeroed with the Vortex 2-7x scope that formerly sat atop the CZ-455 and the collimator had that zeroed very well also; only requiring a few clicks of windage. Here's the 10/22 with the Vortex that's a nice upgrade from the old BSA el-cheapo 2-7x that was on there for years. IMG_9029.JPG ....Forgot to get a CZ-455 picture at the range but here's one taken shortly after it got the 4-12x Tract mounted.... IMG_9003.JPG .... Beautiful summer morning and I had the entire place to myself the whole time. This is the main range just after I backed my truck up to the line at 8:30.. Good times. IMG_9015.JPG ..Planned on posting this last night but got too busy with gun cleaning.

Had fun this afternoon. I got there around 6pm and it was 103 degrees. Considering the heat and the fact that it is Saturday evening I had the range all to myself. Perfecto.

First- Went to the gun show this morning and came home with four different loads for my Ruger LCR in .327. Had Federal Hydra-Shok .327, Federal .32 mag, Hornady FTX .32 mag, and Buffalo Bore .32 S&W Long wadcutters. I really enjoyed testing those. I think the Hornady, which is what I usually carry in it, won the day.

Second- Bought some remanufactured bulk 9mm from Freedom/LAX and shot three magazines of it out of my CZ P10-c. Shot just fine which is good cause I have a LOT of it.

Third- My Remington 760 in 30-06 with its new magazine shot a good group at 100 yards. It is back in action.

Fourth, and by far the most fun, the Marlin Remilin 1894 in .357 shooting plates at 100 yards with Speer Lawman .38 specials. I caught a good deal online last week on 500 police trade in 158gr. Obviously it is pretty hard to find a .38 that will shoot a consistent group at 100 yards. This one did. Fun hitting that plate. Shoot- take a breath- then- ding!!

Fun evening. Now I am home watching Paul Harrel videos.

I laugh when someone says that a 3lb pistol is heavy.
My tool pouch (backpack) weighs 45lbs.
I go up and down ladders all day with it.
I’m in my mid 50’s and weigh less than 160lbs

I lost a LOT from 60 to 66..........but I still climb ladders with tool pouches etc sometimes, just can't do as much of it anymore. One thing I like about NRL-22 is the guns are lighter than PRS, although they can be as heavy if you want them to be. I still can't keep up with the young guys moving a lot. :)

I don't miss climbing telephone poles or carrying the 28 foot extension ladder through yards or hard to get places. The good news is I shot the "heavy" S&W 4506 alot better this morning 😄

I shot the "heavy" 4506 better today. It was my oldest boy duty gun around 1990 I think. I bought it from him after he got a 5906.I wish I was in my md 50's!! I'm in good shape, but I ain't what I use to be.😀😀

I recently had my old 870 field gun in the local gun shop to have the barrel shortened to 20 inches and a tritium night sight bead installed. I finally got it back and it looked and pointed great. I took it out back to pattern it's new short cylinder bore barrel and my new sight flew off on the first shot!:fire:

I haven't shot my Hellcat recently so I replaced my carry mags with range mags and proceeded to murder some zucchini that had tried to take control of our garden..... 20230806_191811.jpg
The hellcat is a good little shooter if you can manage the trigger. It's a constant challenge for an old single action guy...

I may get myself a nice compact 1911 in 9mm some day....but my best option is to master the trigger in this 15+1 Hellcat.

In expectation of my Tisas 1911 9mm showing up tomorrow, yesterday I shot my SW1911 E series (45 ACP). My groups were not great, maybe 8” at 25 yards. Not what I hoped, but this pistol hasn’t been a laser for me. Maybe it’s me, maybe the gun. Either way, I need more practice.

However, my S&W Shield was a respectable 4” to 5” at 25 yards.

Picked up this Tisas 1911 B9 Duty 9mm from my FFL after being delayed (every time since there is a bad doppelgänger of mine out there somewhere). Stopped by the range and shot a few rounds through it. I like it, so far. Definitely worth what I paid and may get one in stainless steel if the price is right. One failure to feed after the first shot, but ran fine for the next 49. I’ll just note, I wasn’t expecting to pick it up, so I didn’t have it cleaned and well lubed like it should have been out of the case before going to the range. Shot about 5” groups at 25 yards.
