What did you shoot today?

Yesterday was another round of "Mystery .22 Ammo" at the Range. 50 rounds of Winchester SuperSpeed and 50 rounds of Mozark (?). Accuracy wasn't great, but every round fired as it should.
"Mystery 22 Ammo" day. That's funny, because I do it sometimes too. Although, my Mystery Ammo is a bit different.

Occasionally when I go to the local club, especially after the 22matches, I see live 22 ammo on the ground. Sometimes a single round, sometimes a few.
I pick it up and toss it in a can when I get home. When the can is full-ish, I take the old Winchester 67 (built somewhere between late 1935 and October 1937) out and run the Mystery Ammo through it.
One round at a time.

Free ammo.

Good times.

Yeah, "Mystery 22 ammo day" for me involves all of the miscellaneous .22 that my dad bought over the years. Nobody really knows how old it is, or when he got it. And most of it was stored in the garage, or a barn, or somewhere, for (best guess) 40 years. It's all performed surprisingly well, too.

I finally found a good deal on a Ruger SP101. I have had one on my list for years and jumped on it. I then proceeded to shoot it with my boys today. And, I can't hit crap with it. I guess I need more practice, but I was embarrassing myself. Even at just a few yards I was struggling. I still like it, but I need to figure out how to shoot it.

I finally got out to the range this afternoon with an assortment of 22LR to shoot my new SiG P322 and took along some other playmates … my Beretta M70 also in 22LR IMG_0614.jpeg

Also a few 45’s … on top is a Kimber Custom Shop, on top … the newest is the Kimber Rapide Black Ice, in the middle and the oldest is a Kimber stainless gold match, it has the best slide fit and trigger of the three.

Got the P08 Luger from my last post back out with the new K-Bar Mag. Shot three mags each of 115gr Blazer and 124 gr Norma, both shot perfectly with the 124gr being much more accurate.

So I read this post somewhere the other night that said that the P08 Luger was designed to be shot one handed with your arm completely extended parallel to your chest. And when you think about it, that's how the Germans filmed them being shot back in the black and white days. I put that to the test today. There I was standing on the pistol range like a Kraut officer holding it right and shooting it one handed. And sure enough I shot a really nice group from seven yards.

And, wouldn't you know, I am about 70% German. Texan. German Texan.

Love posts with pictures. Shooting steel with pistols is fun!!! I just started about a month ago.

Phoenix HP22A, a .22 caliber pistol with 10-round magazine and 3" barrel. Fired off about 90 rounds through it today. I had a few that didn't fire until I re-cocked the hammer and tried again. These were CCI standard velocity LRN. I had one failure to feed.

By the third magazine I got a 3" group at 5 yards:

At 7 yards about a 4" group (upside down because near the bottom of the target sheet so I flipped it):

My 50th anniversary to the Alaska Wildlife Troopers S & W 5 inch 460.

Two different sets of loads. 21 total.
One with 42.5 grains of IMR 4227 and the other with 42 grains of H 110 both pushing 240 grain Hornady JHP's.

Though H 110 is a bit slower of a burn rate than IMR 4227, it felt like a bit more recoil.
Maybe I had had enough for the session as the H110 was second up.

Testing some Power Pistol .38 Special loads in the GP-100 & Blackhawk this afternoon, there is more discovery to be done ;)

The .22 Cal. Benjamin Trail air rifle, made by Crosman. This morning in the basement after we recently discovered that we had a mouse down there. It was showing itself against the basement wall 8 yards away from my reloading bench. The bench where that air rifle is leaning against one end of, with a can of pellets nearby. Loaded the air gun and then didn't see the mouse for a few minutes. Eventually it returned and gave me a stationary shot at 8 yards, with a cement block back stop; one and done. Wanted to take a picture right there in the basement but the boss wanted the dead mouse out of there ASAP. So, it wound up in the woods next to us, where it was headed anyway to feed the foxes, and that's where the photo session occurred. First mouse I ever got with it, although it has taken several squirrels during the last few squirrel seasons. Here's the latest "trophy" pictures: IMG_9283.JPG .. IMG_9285.JPG ..Not much of a "trophy" size mouse, probably a young one. My first impression when I got the crosshairs on it was; "Wow, that's a small target".

I've killed many rodents with traps of various sorts, but my best 'kills' were with :
1) a blow gun and a steel dart. I pinned the mouse to the wall. His feet were moving, but it wasn't going anywhere...

2) a set of slip joint water pump pliers. I saw the bugger sneaking along a wall about 15 feet away, and flung the pliers at it. Dead center hit. I was so proud.

Used a Crosman 1377 air pistol with a shoulder stock to put a trapped mouse out of its misery last year. It got caught in an old fashioned, spring loaded mouse trap that snapped shut on the mouse's rear hip and smashed it. It managed to wiggle free but its tail was still caught, and it was still alive when I found it. Used the 1377 to end its suffering; figured it wouldn't live much longer, anyway. IMG_5202.JPG ..This time of year it starts to get cold at night and the mice decide that they would like to spend the winter somewhere else. My garage is a popular destination for them.
