What did you shoot today?

A really young guy (18-20?) appeared near the bank of a river where I often plink. He sometimes fishes there, but due to chemicals he releases the catfish.

He was driving his Dad's Very expensive series of BMW sedan, but had never shot a gun.
And he didn't know the basic safety rules, which he then heard about for the first time.

I had my German-made S&W M&P Standard .22LR handgun.

The kid seemed pretty responsible, had plenty of common sense, did not wave it around. He put his support hand in place as advised (to push and pull), and based on my request wore my shooting glasses and hearing *.

Bringing it all together, today I shot my CZ 457 22lr Varmint at 50 yards with CCI-SV, Eley Contact and Wolf Match Target. As you can see it does much better with the better ammunition.

I still have a number of boxes to try out but right now Wolf is looking good. Helps that I have at least a brick of it.

73 degrees with 4 -8 mph winds from SW.

Jard 3 - 6 ounce trigger set at 3 ounces. WOW that feels nice. Not too light, I could easily handle it with no misfires on my part. Overtravel was set to almost nothing and Pretravel probably goes 1 - 2 mm before a crisp break in the trigger.

1100 Trap. Actually, my granddaughter on the high school team I coach shot it. First round, first in a year, was pitiful. 5/25. We had a conversation about alignment, poi and follow through. With drawings. Second round, 16/25 and an ear to ear grin.
Season starts Tuesday. 24 "student athletes" signed up. One was high overall average in the big men's league at Peoria at only 17.
Fun to come.

AzShooter1:
"My" most distant gong is at 500 yards (a 1:20 drive from here), and I only tried such a distance two months ago; age 68.

It was also with a nice Vortex scope similar to yours, on a friend's 1970s-vintage Win. .308. We didn't know which scope index to place on the target, but both the box of .308 ammo and the club's Ex. O. explained the index # 5 x 12'' = 60' drop at 500 yards-- iirc. Having never owned a scope I had no idea which index (mark) to use.

My friend really likes his CZ .22LR rifle.
Even guys who are from Germany 🇩🇪 sometimes will acknowledge the very high quality of Czech firearms. 🇨🇿

This afternoon at the top temp time of day (76), I shot the twelve 6 Dasher rounds and got numbers/groups.

Was sitting around at about 6:30ish, and noticed the wind was pretty much dead still, so I zeroed the Vudoo with the Tract 4-20X50.
I switched some scopes around and it had not been zeroed yet.

I bought this old 15-2 about 12 years ago, shot a few cylinders out of it at some cans and was distracted by some other shiny toy, no doubt.
Today was the first day I've taken it out and actually wrung it out. I put a couple hundred 148gr. wadcutters downrange.
As you'd expect, the old gal will still shoot lights out at 15 yards, as long as I do my part.

I went to the club yesterday and shot several things; AR15 6.5G, an impromptu bullseye round with my Marvel .22 conversion, and some air rifle. But the one I want to tell you about is a 1898 Colt Lightning. I saw an old pump rifle sitting out on one of the tables and went over to check it out. I figured that it was a old Savage but was surprised when COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO. was stamped on the receiver. It's chambered in .22 Long. Me and another guy got to take a few shots at 50 ft. and we all were able to put most in the black (3") of a 50 ft. pistol target. Very cool.

I didn't take a picture but here's what one looks like (a little better condition than the one that I shot):

M1A Standard, by Springfield; have never owned a scope. Luckily a club staff member was available to "spot" with his fancy Vortex.
My rifle hit a 8"x10" gong at 200 yards about 2/3 of the time.
And the larger gong at 300 was hit 8 out of 10 total shots. With no formal tng., best shooting "accuracy" I've ever had (age 68).
