At one point I was trying to get all of the major interwar "art deco" pocket pistols. There is such a great design diversity to collect with these little guns, everything from the Colt Pocket Hammerless to the Savage and H&R automatics to the PP and '14 Mausers.

I almost forgot, I collected WaA marked German WWII pistols for a while and had a few .32 ACPs. Eventually sold all .32 ACPs and only kept one VOPO Luger that is an outstanding shooter.

I began my collecting with the goal of collecting American rifles used in WWII. Soon the diversity bug hit me and now I have Japanese, German, Russian, Swiss, and Swede weapons as well as weapons from earlier and later conflicts. To me, rifles are just like Lays Potato chips, you can't have just one!

Once I was into WWII rifles and had a SMLE #4mk1, an SVT and a couple M-Ns all gone now. DSC_0001.jpeg DSC_0002.jpeg
The ones that will not be going are my M1 Garands

I don't know if these are collections, but things I've got that have a theme:
  • 1911s in .45, 9mm and 10mm. They fit me well and shoot soft for caliber.
  • Stopping rifles built on 1886 actions in .45-90 and .50-110, along with a .45C 92 just to have a mini version.
  • S&W under-lug revolvers from the pre-lock era (586, 29 Classic DX)
  • Colt snake revolvers (Diamondback, Python, Anaconda
  • Monolithic ARs - LMTs and a MegaArms
  • Various modern Mauser-type action bolt actions (Winchester M70s, CZ 550s, MRC 1999)

Many, many thanks to all who shared their interests, it is much appreciated.

I guess I'm like many here, a combination of buying what catches my interest (like a Beretta PX4 in .45), some "themes" ( .38SW revolvers or German police pistols), and S&W semi-autos....39 and 59 series. Plus some guns for carry and self defense.

Of course the trouble for all of us is limited resources, not enough gun safes, and

"What! Another gun! You've got one that looks just like that."

"But honey, the other one is a S&W Victory in ,38 special, THIS ONE is a Victory type in 38/200...it's a different gun!

Followed by an eye roll and "Whatever," from Honey.

I ran out of themes that I wanted to collect, but recently fell into searching for a Beretta 85 FS because of a nickel Browning BDA .380.

I have always liked 22’s and have over 60 Firearms that caliber. I also like surplus firearms and have managed to pick up a few over the years. But I do suffer from lack of focus.
Now I do have a soft spot for Turkish Mausers. They’re the underdog of surplus Mausers.
The best advice I can give you is, find something you like and go in that direction.

I loved my first k31 so much I bought one more, and two k11s, and a 96/11, and a 1911 long. Now I have started collecting cold war era pistols. No clue why, just what catches my interest.

I have 2 close friends who are incurable collectors. Both are advanced in age, but their age has not dampened their enthusiasm for collecting. "Joe" collects anything and everything gun related that he believes has value. Mostly his guns are antiques; he has many valuable collectibles. He has also collected gun books, and a host of other related items. "Jim" always has a goal. He is currently collecting small antique pistols that used to be carried by women who were usually a bit shady like gamblers, ladies of the evening, etc. his collections are museum quality, displayed as such, and catalogued systematically. It's a joy to view any of their collections.

1916 Spanish Mausers is a good start. Still can be had relatively cheap, lots of history and variety. I have two, still tempted to get more...so tempted..

For a while I collected pairs of handguns,,,
One in .22 LR and the other in a centerfire chambering.

I was up to 13 pairs at one time,,,
Then for some reason I decided I had collected enough.

I do like owning them,,,
But the new wore off and I stopped buying any more.
