My car is my escape pod.
Read
"Listening to Katrina" by Shane S. It is an outstanding prep site.
Anyway, as with any good escape pod, it in itself is a "rally point" for me in case of an emergency.
Up front, I have water, gatorade, hard candy (and some chocolate since it's winter), powerful flashlights (400-950 lumens), gloves, scarf, winter caps, OTC meds, breath strips (gotta have fresh breath), maps, a Spyderco knife, beef jerky, a couple of books, extra rechargeable batteries for flashlights, chargers for phone, flashlight.
In back, I've got a BOB, toolkit, first aid kid, extra clothes, boots, flares, air compressor, jumper cables, oil, anti-freeze, extra headlight insert, tail lights, tow strap, 10# fire extinguisher, Interceptor armor, extra ammo, blanket, coat, metal toolbox with FRS radios, scanner, batteries, LED headlamp, dual band ham HT, freq. books, shave kit with all those goodies, extra towels, batteries, feminine "stuff", inverter, headphones, more batteries, paper towels, G96, and on and on. ETA: Forgot: Mountain House meals x4.
For personal protection tools, I have a M9 with CCW gear for me (to include IWB holster, mag pouches, mags, flashlight & holster, belt, etc.) and a Model 65 with all the similar fixins for the GF. For serious issues, I have an M4gery with more ammunition than most city blocks in my area will have (only seven mags loaded at the moment). And a Mossberg 590 with reduced recoil loads. Enough to control an early outbreak of zombies or a hoard of Deliverance types.
Oh, and if you're ridin' with me for any distance, and especially in right-to-carry states, you're expected to bring your own American Express card(s).
