What does SHTF mean

That censored 1st word is a slang term for fecal matter... Typically SHTF is used to describe a scenario where society breaks down due to civil unrest, nuclear war, zombies, etc... So anything with "SHTF" attached to it involves holing up somewhere and being self-sufficient for the next few weeks/months/years... If the search function is working look up old SHTF threads, just expect to wait a long time for all of them to load..

Another acronym for this is TEOTWAWKI, "the end of the world as we know it".

In b4 da lock... :neener:

so an sks with a bayonet could be a SHTF rifle since its semi automatic and looks like a beast.

It means a survival fantasy and what ever weapon will be used in it. Having gone through it with Katrina, I know what is means. In my town, it means firing up the grill and feeding the neighborhood with prime steak and superb red-fish fillets as the freezer thaws in between cutting up debris with a chain-saw. In New Orleans on the other hand, it meant having your SHTF weapon confiscated by the police/coast guard.

Frankly, I'll take it hitting the fan in Mississippi where folks don't get quite so crazy.

Indeed, an SKS with the bayonet deployed would work well as a SHTF rifle for normal SHTF scenarios.

Although when the Taliban paratroopers start landing in your backyard you might wish you had something with 30 round magazines like an AK or AR.

You left out the EEK smiley in your quote, that might indicate a little sarcasm..., or I could have been serious. :scrutiny:

I would have thought a real Tarheel would have picked up on that, I'm originally from Sanford, just down US 1.

What caliber for SHTF threads? .223 and 7.62x39.

What caliber for real SHTF? .30-30 and .30-06; ya'll have tried the rest, so go back to the best.

other American examples of major SHTF events in last 40 years of history.....

LA riots 1991 (remember the Korean store owners protecting their property?)

LA riots 1964

The various CA earthquakes

Various hurricanes in Florida

Lesser SHTF events

LA bank robber of 1997

pick your favorite serial killer in town ( Bundy, Rolling, etc)

home invasion robberies (so common they don't make much press any more)

On the same note, it not like IF it going to happen, it only a question as to when it happens.

Many people like myself have been preparing for it, for many many years, that being said, want be much longer.

Domestic terrorists will see to that and blame terrorist from other countries such as Iraq.

Also on top of that mention above, Russia and China probably waiting for such things to happen at our weakest moment & strike. (UN probably be helping them & those in office trying to pushed new world order)

One never knows, but it likely.

TG  :D

Sure Hate This Fearmongering (but it helps me sell the wife on an FN 2000!)

The part in parentheses is never spoken aloud. ;)

But really, a lot of what Ash said. I saw a fair number of lifestar helicopter required chainsaw incidents with exhausted tree crews pushing it around the clock, but no one ever tried to kill me in my whole time out for Katrina/Rita relief.
The SHTF rifles I saw mostly had mag lites clamped to them; it was a situation were refrigeration had been gone a while, propane was holding up, deer and hogs were up in the vegetable patch, and the neighborhood was hungry. A bigger problem was a lack of stockpiled SHTF diapers and SHTF powdered formula. Nothing takes the wind out of your sails like girl with a dehydrated, hungry baby when you're rolling in with a pallet of #10 cans of beans and 50lb sacks of rice. Not a problem you can solve with any rifle I can think of...

Logan, yea me and 4 of my drivers were haulin in bottled water and leaving with FFE supplied reefer units used as morgues....... ya want a parkin spot in a crowded truckstop ya just roll in with onea them reefers with the F.E.M.A sign screwed to em and Sealed doors with the CORONER sign across the door seam.... all ya gotta do is get one of em parked and the spaces to either side will open up for the others as soon as everyone figures out what your haulin...

Our prepass data was relisted for the operation we never got a single redlight from any weight station

Always kinda thought of it as a term for folks that where a tad on the parinoid side of life, or am I just worring about that?
