What firearm (or bow) did you kill your first deer with?

Savage 10, .308 win. It was my first rifle, and while I've got MANY more now It's my most accurate to this day. It's the one everyone wants to borrow. I was 23, hunting as a guest on my boss's family farm. Doe at 50 yards.
I don't understand all of this "I haven't hunted since..." once I pulled the trigger on that one I was hooked and hunting hard ever since. I guess people are different though.

I shot a button buck from 2-3yds from the hip with a Ruger M77 .243, Mannlicher stock and cheap scope (though not used). I was 12 and a wee bit excited when he jumped up in front of me.

Ithaca 12 gauge Model 37 pump. #4 buckshot first shot and then 00 as he ran away. Found him dead with one #4 in the heart and one 00 in a ham. Only deer I ever shot with a shotgun.

Winchester model 1200, 12 gauge, iron sites, smooth bore, Foster slugs. I'm in a shotgun-only state. This year I'm taking out my NEF Tracker II, 20 gauge, rifled bore. I tried a few sabots, but I think I'll stick with the much more affordable Fosters.

First Whitetail deer was a spike buck in Onamia, MN with a Thompson Center Contender Super 14 (handgun) in 7 mm TCU, with open sights.

I had the gun for shooting handgun metallic shilouette competition and was way too poor to buy a rifle to go hunting. My buddy got his deer with a .44 Mag Ruger RedHawk.

Mossberg 5500 MkII 12 gauge with 3" #1 buckshot

first 2 with that gun
third with Winchester 94 .30-30
next two with Remington 700 BDL .30-06

1987, using my Remington M700V, chambered in 6mm Rem. I worked-up a handload of 95 grain, Nolser Partitions, with a muzzle velocity of 3,371 FPS. Optic was a Redfield 6-18 AccuTrac, and a Harris bipod. Zero was set at 300 yards. Shot taken was at 300 yards.

I shot my first buck with a Winchester Model 43 in .22 Hornet.
My first archery kill was with a Bear Grizzly recurve using a homemade ceder arrow and a Bear Razorhead beoadhead,

Opening day of my first deer season(age 13), I killed a 24 in wide 5x5 Mulie with my grandpa's 336 Marlin.

I'm guessing that you want the first Legal one?

The first was a doe shot at the awesome range of roughly 8' with a 46# Bear recurve. The next month I shot my first buck, a monster 6 point, with a Remington 742 Carbine 30-06. Now 45 years later the buck is still on the wall.:D

It's funny, with all the specialty calibers and rifles out there today, I hear the same calibers echoing the decades from when I was young.

30-30
243
7x57
30-40 krag
30-06

And I will add another one. The same year I took my first buck with that old beat up 30-30 Marlin my identical twin brother took his first buck with a 32 special 1948 Winchester 94. Don't forget about them.
Another oldy but goody.

I can't believe we haven't heard from a 300 Savage guy.

Thank you sincerely for bringing back the memories.

Mine was with a smith and wesson model 686 back when I was 8. My father had taught me to handgun hunt as he said it was the hardest way, and if you could hit it with a handgun you can do it with a rifle.

Mine was a Mossberg 590A1. I began purchasing firearms before my interest in hunting developed, and didn't want to buy anything new until I knew I liked it. Got a 10pt

My first deer with a rifle was with a Remington 141 gamemaster pump 35. My grandpa gave me the gun when I was 13 and shot a nice little 6 point.... He let that deer walk past him that day so that I could shoot it.

First bow kill was with a Proline microwave, the biggest doe I have ever shot.

Antonio zoli Zouave replica, home made paper patched Minie of 500 grains and 65 grains of DuPont ffg black powder. 60 yards, swapped ends and fell dead.

Captcurt, we used to set up a spotting scope behind each other looking over the shooter's shoulder and focused on the bull a hundred yards off. You could see the minie rise out of the scopes view and then see it drop down into the target. Probably not over 900 fps, but had no problem going through a deer.

A doe , Deep in the everglads with a 22 hornet 75 yards broke its neck ( DRT ) dead right there. I was 15 , that was manny years ago.

Remington 1100 modified choke with a longer barrel than I should have been using. Killed two deer with one shot. Very long deer body wise that is almost my largest deer to date.
