What firearm (or bow) did you kill your first deer with?

Winchester Model 70 Featherweight XTR in 30/06

Handloaded 165 grn Nosler Ballistic Tip over 59 grns IMR-4350.(dad's load, I was still in High School) In 1998 the Nosler BT was a bit less robust and dropped the doe at about 45 yds, turning internals into mush. :what:

The first deer that I killed was hit with my Dodge Ram pickup truck. I had to chase it down about 20 yards and finish it off with my Case Trapper pocket knife. I then threw it in the bed of the truck and took it home to eat.

Same story but mine was in my brother-in-law's 1980 Subaru Impreza... There wasn't enough of the deer or the car left to salvage.

I've got the guns(Mauser 8mm, Mosin/Nagant 91/30, SKS, one 12 ga., and two 20 ga.), but I 'aint got up the nerve or malice to kill Bambi, nor her (his?) kin yet. Heck, I won't even buy veal at the super market. Did you ever read up on how they raise/treat/prepare those poor little calves?

I'm just mean enough to buy fish, chicken, and turkey though.
Huh, I guess I flunked that test.

Just give me some cooked dry beans and cornbread (Johnny Cake to some), and maybe a yellow onion and /or hot peppers, and that's a meal.

Dog gone, I must be a dang vegetarian!

I still like to shoot all my guns though.:)
That's ok Gunmaster. I have taken venison to feed both of yours and my families all the way back through several generations. Some of us can and some of us can't. You don't have to kill to have fun with a gun. Wow! I 'm a poet and didn't know it.

I got a two fer my first time I killed a deer. We were running dogs in the southern Virginia swamps and I had two doe run by me. I killed both with my dad's old Winchester 1400 using buckshot(the only allowable ammo per that club's rules). I only killed one with a shotgun after that. I much prefer my .270:D

For my first deer (which as much as I've hunted in the 8 years i've hunted regularly, is the only deer I've ever killed, mainly cause it's the only one I ever got a shot at:eek:) I used my Rem. 700 ADL with a Mossy Oak stock in .270Win with some off brand scope that came with it that my dad bought me for my 16th birthday, wish I still had that rifle
Browning BLR .22-250 borrowed from the landowner when I was 12 years old. My dad took me hunting from the age of 9, but always to sit next to him. The landowner said it was time for me to sit my own stand and handed me the BLR. I shot a tiny spike thought the heart & lungs, it ran, I found it off the ground in the "y" of two oak trees. I could not believe how loud that rifle was; he told me it was a .22, so that is what I was expecting.

My buddy and I were 13 yrs old. We went with my dad deer hunting in Wisconsin. My dad went to a spot on one side of the land we were hunting. My buddy and I went to the other side of the land about 1/3 mi from him. We were in a field that was rectangular about 500 yds long. One side of the field was up a hill. I was on the top and buddy was on the bottom. For some reason I moved from my post at about 9AM. Walked down to my buddy. As we were down there a doe came out where i had been posted. We had a "party tag" so a doe was a target. My buddy raised up and shot. (Don't remember what kind of rifle he had) The deer just stood there. He shot again. Deer still stands there. He shoots again and still deer just stands there. I shot and missed. Then I had the brilliant idea of resting my gun on my buddy's shoulder for stability. (The chamber was next to his ear) I had a M1917 with a peep sight. I figured we were about 350 to 400 yards away. I remember that the ballistics said that at that range the bullet would drop 39". So I aimed just a yardstick above the deers shoulder. When I pulled the trigger my buddy went down from the terrible blast next to his ear (no ear protection) I attended to him. He was OK. We looked up and the deer was gone. Might I have gotten it? We walked up the hill 365 yards. The deer was laying there with a bullet through the spine about 5" to the right of my hold. It was a good shot. But after almost destroying my friends hearing I can see why 13 yr old kids are supposed to be accompanied by an adult. Learning the hard way.

First shot ever at a deer, was with a PSE Vector compound shot with KP300 tab and TSS front sight (no peep). 4 pt that dressed 150#............shot on the run around 20 yards, moving right to left (from treestand). He went 20 yards and piled up.

Was my 5th time out hunting in 3 yrs.

First gun deer was an 8pt 145# dressed at 77 yds with Mossberg 500 Regal and 4X Tasco scope. Took off the top of his heart.

First Muzzleloader deer was a 160# dressed 9 pt, taken on the run around 30 yards. TC New Englander .50 cal. He went 25 yards and was down. Neck shot, found roundball under hide behind offside shoulder. Perfect (left to right is easier for a righty).

First handgun deer was a doe, 105#.......shot right under my stand with a Ruger Superblackhawk Old Model. She dropped, bounced back up and went 40 or so yards, fell over.

First trad deer was an 8pt, 145# (about 17" wide inside spread) shot with a Blackwidow SA2 55#.............on the run at 19 yards (L to R).

First rifle deer was a button, at 65 yards (new place, was there 15 mins) with a Ruger .44 auto, fingergroove ('66 model) and peep sight. I didn't know it was a button. 90# dressed. It was with a few of same size, buddy spooked them. It stopped and I popped. Deer did a backflip and lay dead. 236gr Norma factory ammo.

First one

My first deer was a 165 lb 7 pt when I was 13 years old. I'll never forget it. It was the best feeling in the world. He stepped out 30 yards and I used my Rem Mod 700 .243 with a Simmons scope to put him down. I climbed down the stand so fast, I think I more slid out it, and run over to him.

Fast forward about 10 years(I'm only 23, young, I know) I've taken plenty more deer, but my favorite is always taking a friend or family member along and letting them kill their first one. In the last 10 years I believe I've taken 7 different people hunting with me and let them shoot their first deer. Nothing like passing it along.

One of the coolest threads I've read.

33 years ago, Interarms MkX 243, 2.5-8X Leupold scope. Button buck @ about 200 yards.

Used Winchester Model 70 in 30-06 wearing a Nikon Buckmaster. Had no idea what I got in a trade at a gunshow (and yes, I did the paperwork for it - contrary to what the anti-gunners say). Didn't know much about model 70s at the time, but the vendor wanted $740 for it and the gun was in fantastic shape. Took it home and to my surprise it was the model 70 Extreme Weather Stainless, a $1200 gun.

Dropped my first deer at about 40 yards with it.... been hooked ever since.
